Description
My ink over of original pencils and inks by Mike Zeck and Jim Sanders III

Playing with this piece by framing the figure with a black background. With respect to composition, this is a good idea because it creates contrast, enabling a quick read. But with respect to the technique used to render the figure - decorative outline - it creates a problem. The problem is that the outer edge of the tapered outlines get lost in the frame, so that a significant part of the volume of the form is removed along with cues explaining how the edges turn. The solution to that is to re-establish the lost shape of the tapers with a white outline. That doesn't have to be a complete white outline, as frequently seen in teen comics; well placed partial outlines will do. Of course, it has to be done carefully to define the original shape of the inked tapers. I didn't do it. I just sketched in the white outlines to see the effect. It worked well in principle. Will work even better when done properly. LOL..
