Hello there. This is SofiaBlythe2014. Big Hero 6 The Series has had quite the journey, mostly due to wonky scheduling and executive meddling. Let's see how it was treated.

Season 1:

The show premiered with a 1 hour special (42 minutes without commercials) on November 20, 2017 called "Baymax Returns". It was simulcast on both Disney Channel and Disney XD. That sounds pretty good. One would think that this would take a similar route that Sofia The First and The Lion Guard did, where they have a pilot movie in November before regularly rolling out episodes in January on Disney XD. That's not the case. For over 6 months, there was nothing from Disney about what channel it would air on, as well as when it would air. This was only more pronounced when reruns of the pilot movie were greatly reduced. Making things worse is with how some episodes apparently aired in other countries in early 2018.

It was revealed in late spring that the show would officially roll out new episodes on Disney Channel starting Saturday June 9, 2018. There was a weekend of new episodes airing from 9:00-10:00 am before moving to Saturday mornings on June 16. That doesn't seem so bad except that they burned off the season over the course of 4 months. Not only that, reruns were eventually taken off so that Disney Channel would only air new episodes. This started on September 1, and also had new episodes airing at 7:00am. Yikes! After the one hour season finale on October 13, the show went on hiatus for 7 months, and with no reruns. That is pretty bad. How could it get worse?. Let's see how.

Season 2:

Season 2 came out on Monday May 6, 2019, this time new episodes airing at 3:30pm. This was part of the bomb format strategy Disney Channel was trying. There were new episodes airing everyday from May 6-17. Like before, Disney Channel aired only new episodes while Disney XD got the reruns.

There was a 3 and a half month hiatus with new episodes returning on September 3 and continuing until September 11. They continued airing at 3:30pm, but they first premiered at 7:30am that same day on Disney XD. The ratings also started getting lower.

Then the show took a 3 month break with a Christmas episode airing on December 7 at 9:00am. And then things get strange. New episode premieres moved back to Disney XD starting January 4 at 10:00am, but for the rest of the season, they would air on Disney Channel on Sunday mornings 8 days later at around 7:30. Wow! The season 2 finale aired February 8 on Disney XD and February 16 on Disney Channel, the latter of which would be the last time the show aired on Disney Channel.

Season 3:

The show went back to airing only on Disney XD, which was cemented by season 3 premiering on September 21 at 7:30pm. This hiatus was 7 months. The season would see some big changes. The most notable is the change in format from 22 minute episodes to 11 minute episodes, with only the season premiere being 22 minutes and emphasizing comedy over action and story. This was a network mandate.

At first, it seemed like things were going fine with new episodes airing every week until November 9 (except October 19, since DuckTales aired Let's Get Dangerous that day). Then the show took a 2 and a half month break, with reruns still being there but were inconsistent and reduced. It was then reported on January 28 that the series would end on February 15, with all the episodes airing from February 1-15.

Let's just say the schedule was pretty chaotic, and the ending wasn't one what people expected. Still, the show is definitely an interesting experiment that's fun to watch.
