I first saw her when I was younger in Bugsy Malone, when she was a child actor in that film. She's also been in Taxi Driver, the gritty Martin Scorsese film where she plays a child victim of prostitution, my favourite of her films. Her most notable role is in Silence of the Lambs, where she plays the lead detective. Another film that I like of hers is Contact, a story written by the legendary Carl Sagan about contact with aliens far away. She's also been in Panic Room, Anna and the King, Freaky Friday, Elysium, and Inside Man, as well as others.
