Description Marcus couldn't sleep. It wasn't entirely due to the friogeists - they had somehow found him this far from his home - which now orbited him like personal stars. He was also nursing a mild headache from being without his glasses, but that wasn't what kept him awake either.

The young wolf sighed, ears flicking backwards as he picked up the sound, and then the scent of two presences behind him.

"H'lo," he grumbled.

Haruna and Brennus hadn't seen friogeists since they were pups. Intrigued, they had been creeping up on the glowing lights. At the sound of Marcus's voice, they both froze guiltily.

If Marcus had been in a better mood, he would have laughed. It was hard to imagine sometimes that these two were from the same brood as Regent. "Don't worry," he added. "I wasn't asleep."

"Somehow, I'm not surprised that you aren't," Haruna said apologetically. "It's been a bit of a hectic day."

Marcus turned his head and looked at the two dark blurs. "I had no idea that I might run into, well-"

Brennus chuckled. "Weren't expecting to find Regent's family, were you?"

Now it was Marcus's turn to feel guilty. "Well, you see, Regent and I don't exactly...see eye to eye. So when I run into his relatives-"

"...you assumed that we'd dislike you instinctively." Haruna said. "Look, I can't speak for a brother I haven't seen in ages, but I doubt your disagreements are instinctual. So why should ours be?"

"How is Regent, anyway?" Brennus added.

Marcus thumped his tail on the ground. "He's huge."

"You mean he's a bully," Brennus said darkly.

The siblings watched Marcus's hackles suddenly raise, then settle again just as quickly. That alone told them all they needed to know, though Marcus added, "He is a good leader."

Brennus and Haruna exchanged a dark look.

"He really misses you," Marcus said, after a while. "He'll be happy to know you're doing alright."

Haruna shook her head, and bumped Brennus gently. "Why don't you try to sleep, Marcus. I'll take you to the crows tomorrow and we'll find your glasses, alright?"

There was no answer. Marcus had finally succumbed to the sheer exhaustion that even a thousand friogeists couldn't keep him from.

----

Holy Saturation, Batman. I tried something new with Marcus's eyes. I'm trying to make it pretty obvious that when his glasses are off, his eyesight is more of a hinderance than a help. Most styles I know tend to exaggerate the squinty expression, but being a glasses-wearer myself, I've found that unfocused, wall-eyed stare to be my most common expression when unbeglassed.

I've been busy making preparations to attend ConnectiCon in July. and I are going to have a table in the Artist's Alley, so we've been hard at work on stuff to sell. I'm still debating about bringing some prints along, and if I'll open commissions officially there.

By the way, how do the wolves get along with humans? I was just looking through the archives and saw that while they turn into humans, they dont exactly interact much (except the Harlequins)

I think it depends on the individual. Some of them just have little/nothing to do with humans, be it due to habit or a remote location, so while they may have the ability to transform, they really don't put it into practice very often (unless they have a sudden need for thumbs). Others really don't like mixing with humans at all and generally avoid them at all costs, and maybe that's for the best. Then there are the ones who are fascinated by them and try to 'slip in' to mingle with humans on occasion, while maintaining a life away from them most of the time. And I suppose there are probably factions of wolves out there who really wouldn't say no to killing humans if they ran across one...

So the short answer is that I guess it runs the spectrum.
