I really do recommend trying out onsen if you get the chance. My favorite part of recent Japan trips is ryokan + onsen. Outdoor rotenburo are my favorite, though more indoor ones like this are good too. California has a bunch of hot springs which can be nice, but it's not quite the same.

Although the pose of the bather and her surroundings are depicted well, another aspect makes the work truly stand out. It is the lighting, it breathes life into the scene. In addition to vitalising the view, the lighting makes one wonder why is she taking a bathing during daytime in the first place.
