this is beautiful!

i love the soft lighting and the wooden cog is detailed to perfection. unfortunately the meaning behind this eludes me but the image is interesting enough to work regardless.

brilliant! fav.

I guess it's pointless to explicitly explain what I meant here...

The message, from what I understand, is quite serious and maybe even a bit sad, but in spite of the clear symbolism, my first reaction to this is "Awwwww!"
It's like, we chase our own imagined nonsense, and time goes by us into eternity, but damn, we look so fucking CUTE doing it! And you know, I like that kind of tone on that kind of statement. You don't hear it often. most people, oddly, hate themselves for the smallness of their lives in the objective world. subjectively, we're HUGE. That matters more, i think... It's nice to see something so positive in light of our littleness.

anyways, end rant.

I like.

one thing though, I think the kid is a bit too low over the wheel to be really running on it, looks like he\she's gonna fall next step. I mean, i'm trying to draw the next frame in my head, and it don't really work out.
cheers, man.

Hey thanks.
That's a good comment. The idea is indeed that meaning starts and ends with us, and really we're just.. well, chasing our own bubbles in a much more abstract and ineffable universe. Loss of meaning is depression - but when I got the idea for this painting it was under very pleasant circumstances and I thought it would fit nicely.

You're right about the height, I considered changing it several times during the process, but it always seemed too late

BabushkaYaga In reply to Slight-Shift [2009-04-26 10:06:33 +0000 UTC]

I dunno if it's depression. I don't see a reason to be sad about something I can't help or change. It is what it is. I'm sad about flaws in my being that can be fixed and aren't yet -- not for things I can't do anything about... I prefer to look at things like what you depicted in an accepting, loving way; because we ARE endearing, in a way, if we stop taking ourselves so seriously.

it fits perfectly.

Aside from the bleeding knees, that looks fun! haha This is SO beautiful! I'm amazed. Also the title made me think of "Heroine Hero". XD
