Description I never liked Lombax!Clank AUs.  Why get rid of such an adorable robot?  So for me a switched bodies scenario is much more funny and entertaining.  It'd also be interesting for character explorations.  Seeing how Ratchet and Clank adjust to their new bodies and somehow still work together despite their roles being switched.  Clank starts off finding the situation to be quite educational and amusing (as does Talwyn once she gets over the shock).  But once he starts experiencing normal human inconveniences such as hunger, exhaustion, and especially pain, he begins to change his mind.  Picture a robot experiencing pain for the first time.  Not fun times.  Ratchet never liked the situation from the get-go.  Though being immune the things like pain has its advantages.

I guess Nefarious made this happen?  Intentionally or not.  And there's a way to reverse it, they just gotta figure out how.  And they gotta do it quick.  If they stay like this for too long, they'll get too used to their new bodies and be unable to go back.  Before they know it, Clank starts acting like Ratchet and vice verca.

This is probably going to be a scenario that happens in the comic, so I won't go too much farther with it right now.  Not that I've thought that far ahead, anyway. >w<

Hello, again.
Just wanted to say that I think that the scenario of Ratchet and Clank switching bodies would work better than Clank being a lombax if it were to happen in a game. It would sure compliment the single-player style of the game that RaC gamers like, as I've seen. I wish I could add my own experience to compare, but I've only played the demo of "Up Your Arsenal."
Some people who liked my version of Lombax!Clank have told me that they wish that Clank would become a lombax at least briefly in a game, but I think that it's best that the idea stays in the non-canon universe. Also, the process of Clank transforming from a short, warbot defect to a perfect lombax is pretty ridiculous, right?

Lol your last comment was almost a whole year ago so I had no idea where this was coming from.  I'll never support the idea of Clank turning into a Lombax in the game because he has such a great design.  It would ruin their image as a team if they were both Lombaxes.  That's why I was okay with the idea of them switching bodies.  At least Clank's robot body still exists.  Gameplay wise wouldn't work, either, because the player wouldn't feel anything different.  Ratchet and Clank have to get used to playing the opposite roles of each other.  Ratchet always trusted Clank to know what maneuvers he needed help with and when.  Whether it be the helipack for soft landings, the boost for long jumps, or just plain watching his back.  Now it's Ratchet to has to do that job and Clank who has to rely on him for that.  When you think about it, Ratchet puts a whole lot of faith in Clank to know when he needs help on a long jump or for dodging attacks, since he never voices what move he's going to do next.  That kind of silent communication doesn't quite work in gameplay because as the player you control both characters.  So yeah, this idea wouldn't work in the games.

Also you should really try playing the other games.  The entire series is fantastic.

Oh, sorry, I didn't realize how long ago it was!
Definitely Clank originally has a great design, I agree with that. And that's part of why I thought Clank becoming a lombax in the game would not be a good idea. Clank would lose some of his unique robot abilities and the co-op definitely wouldn't be the same.
Yeah, I didn't really think the gameplay wouldn't be any different either, I was only thinking about how it would work as part of the story for a moment. I understand what you mean though. I see where not playing the games has its disadvantage.

I probably would have had more RaC games if my brother and I ended up with a Playstation 3 instead of an Xbox when we were young. We were more into Sonic, then. Either way, I bet I would still fall out of playing video-games eventually. I lost interest ever since sometime in 2010, got more into drawing and writing stories, and I forgot how to play the games. The only game I do remember how to play from time to time is Hexic HD on the Xbox.
I'm one of the RaC fans who followed the series because of its story and character design, basically.

I feel guilty now, because my Lombax!Clank is one of the most popular (next to airbax). ;_; I don't dislike Clank as a robot, I think he's cool the way he is, I just thought it would be an interesting concept if Clank had somehow become a lombax and had to adapt to being an organic, which is quite similar to your comic, here, so I understand how you got the idea. I tried not to go out of character with my version of Lombax!Clank, because I like the challenge to keep a canon character persistent.

Anyhow, nice work on this one.

By all means, don't let my opinion make you feel like you're doing a bad thing.  I just said that I personally don't really like it.  I never said it was a bad thing.  You are absolutely welcome to enjoy this series however you want.  And if you enjoy Clank as a Lombax, then turn him into a Lombax.  I actually haven't looked into too many stories of him turning into a Lombax.  In fact, Airbax's version is really the only one I'm familiar with.  I just prefer Clank as a robot and my reasoning goes no further than that.  So please, don't feel guilty.

And thanks!

Okay. Sorry if I sounded like I was guilt-tripping, I don't like having the feeling that I think I annoyed someone.  Honestly, I once drew a version of Lombax!Clank as a joke, then was inspired to do more of it after seeing airbax's work. And to be honest, I do think airbax's version does go a bit too far out of character sometimes (mainly thinking of the yaoi).

You're welcome.

I don't find it annoying.  Because if I don't like it, I just don't look at it.  I think Airbax's biggest problem is that she draws all these requests that pair Lombax!Clank with a bunch of OCs that force him to look and act out of character.  Though I also find her version of Ratchet and Alister to be OOC, so I guess it's just her writing in general I don't like.

Anyway, again, my opinion doesn't matter.  Do what you enjoy.

*nods* Even though I enjoy the humor factor in some of her comics, you have a point. Nobody is perfect. Thanks for being considerate of other opinions.

artsicat13 In reply to SleepySundae [2015-08-12 15:14:22 +0000 UTC]

That's good to hear.
And that's one of the reasons why I stopped taking requests a while ago, because of the illogical pairings and the underdeveloped characters that just don't make the slightest bit of sense.
Back when I used to do Q&As, a couple of people asked my version if their FC could be his girlfriend. I always took the easy way out and said that he would be fine with just being friends.
And the majority of the questions were of female lombax FCs wanting to hug him. I thought you may have at least known my version for them.
And yeah, the way she writes the characters are pretty OOC. Sometimes when she draws Ratchet in certain scenarios, he seems to act too much like a child. It's hard to imagine James Arnold Taylor's voice in some of the dialogue. She is still a good artist, though. I've never seen anyone else draw Alister so perfectly.

It's okay, though. I actually found it interesting to hear from someone who thinks otherwise about the whole Lombax!Clank thing. Still, I think I could've handled my first comment better. I sounded like I got into my feelings a bit. Sorry about that.

Nice idea! I don't mind the Lombax!Clank AUs, but I do prefer the original. Clank is so cute!
This is a really neat idea! Makes me think about so much that can happen in this situation. The limitations are endless! ;w; Especially since it's a organic and robot switch up. I'm definitely looking forward to this when your comic comes out!

I have no intention of reading that.  ESPECIALLY if it has a similar plot.  I'd rather go the way of TJ Fixman and just not look at other people's RaC stories in case someone tries to accuse me of stealing their ideas.

It certainly would be fun.  I mean, just picture the antics they'd get into trying to adjust to their new bodies.  Ratchet trying to make all of Clank's gadgets work and he keeps functioning the wrong one at the wrong time.  Clank on reflex trying to jump onto Ratchet's back and crushing him.  Hilarity shall be had.

To be honest, I never was too fond of Lombax Clank(s) neither, but only because a lot of the time he wasn't portrayed like his true character at all (personality wasn't the same in most cases, doing things entirely out of character, etc) basically, he was more like a general lombax OC. I can understand why a lot of fans like Lombax Clank though, and that's okay. All fans have their different tastes and ideas after-all.
To be fair I have at least seen a few interpretations that are a bit more true to his character... either way I still prefer good ol' lovable robot Clank ^^
Ahem, funny little comic of this body-switching situation btw. Tal's expressions kill me as well as Ratchet's reactions while being in Clanks body it's always good to have more R&C comics around!

SleepySundae In reply to Lurking-Leanne [2015-08-10 13:26:57 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, maybe that's it.  It can be difficult to maintain a consistent personality when the appearance of a character significantly changes.  Especially in Clank's case, where he goes from being not very expressive to having a wide range of expressions.  And it's a headcanon of mind that robots don't feel emotions as deeply as organic people do (as in, obviously they physically can't cry, but they wouldn't anyway because they aren't capable of becoming that sad).  So Clank turning into a human (which I've been using as a universal term for organic people of society, because "squishy" sounds like a derogatory word) would change how he behaves just a little.  He'd probably mostly find it all overwhelming.  But that doesn't mean he has to act entirely out of character.  The whole situation is tricky and needs a lot of thought put into it to really work.

Anyway, thanks!  My favorite thing is to draw these characters with weird and funny expressions. X3

Lurking-Leanne In reply to SleepySundae [2015-08-10 23:05:03 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes that's true that being organic for the first time would be awfully strange & that he'd do & experience some odd things but even so, his core personality should be intact. Such as the way he speaks and his intellect, etc.
But yeah I do agree with your views on robot races too. I tend to do with a headcanon similar to that as well, yet still retaining the sentient side to them of course! Since almost all robot races in R&C do have emotions, of course

You're welcome!
