Description
Yesterday, one of the UK's most famous trees, The Sycamore Gap Tree, was found cut down. The tree appeared in the 1991 Hollywood film "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" and is a landmark for visitors to Hadrian's Wall. It's only the third UK Tree of The Year to have been felled, following the Cubbington Pear Tree in 2020 and The Happy Man Tree in 2021 (The Cubbington Pear Tree was felled for the High Speed 2 rail line). It's unknown whether new growth will emerge from the fallen tree, but if it does, it will take 150-200 years before the new tree to be fully mature.
