The only bad part about stationed in Siberia is actually the food
Cold borscht because when the ovens are used in the morning, it takes power away from the heating systems
Siberia is mostly untouched, most of the guys stationed out there are there for the deep-cold training, expeditionary recon training, Spetsnaz shit or they are there because it was just barely a step above a penal discipline labour battalion
For the most part, the overall job is to simply maintain a military presence to discourage insurgencies against any of the scientific pursuits taking place there and any rivals from attempting to recover sensitive information from such studies
I think getting stuck in Moscow during the summer when it is humid as fuck, wearing the winter variant Digiflora uniform is far worse than any Siberian tore
I have always been a sucker for pictures like this, to be honest.
We rarely get to see any kind of soldiers in the fandom do what soldiers often do, and that is mostly combating boredom between operations and movements with each other's company

Well yeah, but you're on the home team here. These folks are soft-skinned alien invaders what ain't used to cold.
Really interesting to hear all these actual facts about the area, given I only really have the vague understanding and ability to google this stuff.
Man I just really dig the idea that there were just as many groundsmen in the irken military as invaders. Like if invaders were the elite of the elite, then there had to be a bunch of poor ordinary folks being put in after them to quell the insurgents. What are their stories? Well whatever they are, they're probably miserable. Fun to tell!

That is true, that green skin can't protect much against the blistering cold
One of those things you really can't google
It is like trying to google a specific history of a village - I don't think there is a single article in english at least - that is dedicated to Siberian military installations and their conditions
And even feweer media and games to help promote a general idea of such
I'd definitely say that Invaders would have to be the 1%
For every single invader, there would at least have to be like, a ground force of 1k to keep it balanced
In a way, Invaders are highly publicized espionage agents and insurgents of the highest degree
It makes it all the more funnier than most of them are incompetent and they are only as successful as their invading planets are unintelligent
I decided to write Strelok's back story up a bit and give some special lighting to the leg infantry that is likely the largest bulk of the Imperial war machine
I wish we had less super hardcore elite special forces alpha male bad asses in the fandom
It is easy to make super high speed operations look heroic
But heroism is not always having the advantage, sometimes it is those who die heroically on the battlefield in the defense of their own ideals, their own people and the "tune of their own music", so to say
We forget so often that the little people tend to win wars the most
Whether it is the grunts or the guerilla fighters
Both of the largest super powers in human history, the US and the USSR - lost wars not to special forces or elite operators - for obviously, both us and America had some of the best special operatives in the world
We lost wars to guerillas, to people with heart and spirit and an ideology they believed in more than most would
I'm not saying Vietnamese guerillas or the Taliban were good lads, but I definitely tip my hat to their resolve, despite facing casualties that nearly destroyed their populations
Makes me wonder how many wars Irk has honestly lost to the "small dogs" on the battlefield
