I'm not really sure what you mean this is the exact size he is described as in the short stories you clearly need to go back and read them more thoroughly.

Yeah it's not meant to be a word-for-word event of what happened, it's just a drawing.

I'd recommend it. As well as the Rogues anthology which just came out, it has a prequel to this story in it.

Now I need to get this book and the Dunk and Egg books so I can complete my Song of Ice and Fire collection. Have you read the Dunk and Egg books? What do you think of them?Β

Sir-Heartsalot In reply to blueeyesaf [2014-01-15 12:59:43 +0000 UTC]
I most certainly have read the Dunk and Egg books, and I find them to be the finest in the collection. At times, I almost like them more than the main saga. Can't recommend them hard enough.

blueeyesaf In reply to Sir-Heartsalot [2014-01-15 13:31:52 +0000 UTC]
Well then that settles it, now the only thing is to find them. Are they as violent and mature as the main books?Β

Sir-Heartsalot In reply to blueeyesaf [2014-01-15 13:46:37 +0000 UTC]
Hum. Not nearly, no. There are no descriptions of Tyrion's penis or any of the Mountain that Ride's masochism. There are fights, since the central character is a knight but it's not like every page every page. It's much more chill, which is why I kind of like them better at times. Lots more...just, environment. Characters. Fun haha.

blueeyesaf In reply to Sir-Heartsalot [2014-01-15 17:20:07 +0000 UTC]
So I was looking into buying them and could only find them as graphic novels or in anthologies. Do you know if there's some way to get them as stand alone short stories with no illustrations or anything? I'm going to have to buy the Dangerous Women anthology to read the Princess and the Queen, I'd rather not have to buy three other anthologies that I'm only going to read one story from.Β
π: 0 β©: 1
Sir-Heartsalot In reply to blueeyesaf [2014-01-15 17:25:20 +0000 UTC]
They're just in anthologies :/ GRRM really wants that exposure for the other authors I think. You should read some of the other short stories though really, a lot of them are good. Dangerous Women had a few that I liked.

blueeyesaf In reply to Sir-Heartsalot [2014-01-15 19:38:54 +0000 UTC]
Oh well, I guess I'll just have to give in a get the anthologies, thanks for all the info, most people just ignore questions and if they do respond will only respond once with a half assed answer. One final question and then I'll leave you alone, how long on average are the stories? Just ballpark page numbers? It won't effect my decision on whether or not to get them I'm just curious.Β

Sir-Heartsalot In reply to blueeyesaf [2014-01-15 19:46:38 +0000 UTC]
Do NOT leave me alone if you have questions and I am not bothered. Um. Man, ballparks uh this is hard for me since I read on ebooks I have like a totally warped sense of page numbers. I do know they are not technically "short stories" they are novellas which puts them on the longer side of a short story. I'd say they are probably like a ten or twelve chapter read in a regular ASOIAF book? They're a good chunk, definitely a flushed out story on all counts.

blueeyesaf In reply to Sir-Heartsalot [2014-01-15 20:14:32 +0000 UTC]
No more questions come to mind, again thanks. I'm glad to hear they're a good length, I could read about the world of Westeros for the rest of my life and consider it time well spent so the more the better. Β

Sir-Heartsalot In reply to blueeyesaf [2014-01-15 20:20:58 +0000 UTC]
I think you'll enjoy them then. They are insanely rich with Westeros flavor. Especially parts you don't normally get to see, and from perspectives that are definitely new.

The Targaryens have always interested me and we don't get much of them in the main story because Dany is the only one alive (besides Viserys who dies half way through the first book and her nephew who's only in the most recent book, not in much of it, and possible a Blackfyre if the theories are right) so I'm very interested in these novellas, the Princess and the Queen in particular. So Brynden Rivers in the the Hedge Night series right? We get some of him in the books but not a real insight on who he is as a person, I'm to understand they chronicle the Blackfyre rebellion?Β

Sir-Heartsalot In reply to blueeyesaf [2014-01-16 03:51:36 +0000 UTC]
The Hedge Knight doesn't exactly chronicle the Blackfyre rebellion although they do talk about it a lot. You want me to spoil some stuff haha, just check them out.

It is frustrating that George hasn't told us the colors of Meraxes or Vhagar in 5 books and 4 novellas, one of which had Vhagar precipitate.Β The only clue to Meraxes's color is the Green dragon biting its tail on House Tonand's Coat of Arms.Β Since Rhaeneys was the one who chased the Dornish around to no avail during the conquest.Β Stupid Archmaester Gyldayn only fixating on how big she was and not just describing her color.Β It frustrated me kinda bad.Β No love for fan-artists.

Yeah, but at the same time it is kind of fun as an artist not to have to adhere to such strict dogma. I mean, you get a lot of flak for even the slightest mistake on a description.

The part of this little tale that sticks with me the most is what they did with King Viserys after he died. Β Which was, for ten straight days, not a goddamned thing. Β They were desparate enough to keep his death a secret from whoever that they let him rot away in his bed for a week and a half. Β They only let the realm know of his passing after the stench got so bad that they had to finally do something with him. Β

That whole "Targaryens don't burn, don't get sick" is just some family myth. Aerion Brightflame burned after drinking wildfire, and Aegon the Second got burned in his battle with Rhaenys.
Also, Daeron the Good died of the springsickness, and so did his grandsons.
This battle was super sweet, and I love the way Daemon is leaping towards Aemond, makes him look his age, rather than some super-agile Legolas type character. Would love to see some more Dance of the Dragons inspired work.

Sir-Heartsalot In reply to Cozur [2014-01-03 17:20:11 +0000 UTC]
Well Dany remarks that neither she nor Viserys ever got sick. I think that's like the only line where people think Targaryen's are immune to illness. Dany clearly was immune to fire at least once though so, there's that.
I am kind of on a dragon-tear so you might get your wish. Nettles and Sheepstealer are like, the clear favorite for me in that book. Also, the Cannibal.

Cozur In reply to Sir-Heartsalot [2014-01-03 21:43:08 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, but GRRM got asked about that "Daenerys is immune to fire" thing like a million times, and stated she was the exception to the rule, and something something Azor Ahai/blood magic.
Vermithor and Silverwing? The part where Silverwing lands and tries to get Vermithor to fly again had me super emotional for some reason - I'm really surprised there was no "Jaehaerys and Alysane warged into their dragons when they died" theories like right away.
Also, Addam Velaryon was pretty cool. And the five dragons burning the fleet was awesome.

Sir-Heartsalot In reply to Cozur [2014-01-03 22:00:45 +0000 UTC]
GRRM confirmed Dany is Azor Ahai?
Huh. Targaryen wargs? I dunno...sounds far fetched. Oh wait Bloodraven. Okay maybe.
π: 0 β©: 1
Cozur In reply to Sir-Heartsalot [2014-01-03 22:53:41 +0000 UTC]
Nah, didn't confirm it, but said her being able to walk through fire/hot water was a magic-mystical thingie and not something that applied to all Targaryens. But it seems to be one of the many points people put in favor of her being Azor Ahai.
I don't think they warged, but with all the warg theories all over the fucking place, I'm surprised no one jumped on this.

You'd think they would train dragons to like, bite the top of another dragons neck so they could just chomp off the rider immediately.

Well, the Targaryans weren't so bad in Hedgeknight. I think the problem are our calloused, cynical minds, used to the plight of white haired Mary Sues (I blame Mr. Salvatore).
Personally, when I first got around reading the books, I was way more worked up about Jon Snow (loner, brooding AND a white wolf), but I got over it.
Where were we? Oh right, picture.
It looks pretty darn awesome, but the black of the suits of armour seems a bit stark. Maybe lighten it up a tiny bit or add some dragon/flame iconography to break it up a little?
π: 0 β©: 1
Sir-Heartsalot In reply to Sensko [2013-12-31 14:04:11 +0000 UTC]
Jon Snow is definitely one of those "come on." guys. I mean, he just invents cunnilingus and Yggritte never even heard of it? COME. ON. I could go on for hours about that part.
Anyway yes Egg is great, and so are a lot of the Targaryens I am definitely warming up to them as a house.
And eh, I kinda like the armor black. I had some gold inlay and red dragons but..I dunno I like the flat black.
