Agreed agreed! This one was actually the most fun piece to work on that I've ever done. Making all those little parts and pieces was great. I think I should do more of that in future work.

BLAME! is a manga by Nihei.. It's got like.. 5 percent plot, 1 percent characterization, and 94 percent cyborgs running around kicking ass and blowing the hell out of the gorgeously drawn world. Great stuff.

Hellos.
> Not that I'm trying to pick a fight or anything But
Hey I understand. And I respect people who have the guts to voice their opinion publically.
> the big issue is the lack of dialouge
Here I wouldn't use "issue," I'd say that's its strength
Yes, the whole series is image based, which is why I love it in the first place. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and I think that too many manga artists don't take this into serious consideration enough. Why litter a page with useless chatter and narration when your art could be telling the story for you. I have to say most of my favorite comics have no words at all, and have prompted me to use less dialogue in my own work. I'm big on atmosphere, which is why BLAME! appealed to me in the first place. Tsutomu Nihei got so many emotions across without having to say anything. You can just feel how big or lonely or oppressive the areas were without anything needing to be said.
If I didn't love that, I wouldn't have respected Nihei's work enough to spend the hours it took to do this fanart. So I hope you didn't think I was dissing on the comic or anything, because I'm not really.
I guess, I get a lot of people asking me what it's about, when they hear of BLAME! And they're expecting a simple answer like some hero fighting against the evil bad guys or something. I don't think you can go into BLAME! expecting something ordinary like that. The experience is indescribable and people who understand it will love it, and the people who don't, won't. It's one of those "you have to be there" kind of things for me. And so if someone asks me what it's about, I say Killy fighting Cyborgs because that's the simplest way I can put it. So I hope you understand that I didn't say that as a negative thing, just as a general explanation of what to expect in the comic.
Yes, of course there is a plot. But I'm going to venture out on a limb here and say that the plot was NOT the reason that Nihei wrote the books. I think he wanted to explore his own ability to describe this world he created with images. When I look at the pages, I feel like an explorer too, never looking back, always crossing my fingers for the road ahead. I think the WORLD comes first, all its little details, alleyways, and how it all works together. I think the art comes second, and then the plot, and then the fighting, and... well I really do have to say it had little to no characterization.
Anyway, that's a more expanded version of my thoughts.

Hmm...reminds me of the Guyver anime. Only with about 2% more teen angst and about 92% cyborgs (and mutants) running around, kicking ass and blowing the hell out of a semi-interesting world. Being a 90's anime and all.
...but the manga is better.

Well, I was introduced to it via this really low-quality live-action American-made movie featuring Mark Hamill. It was so bad I instantlyfell in love with it. Then I found the 12-part anime, the much better sequel to the movie and the last two issues of the manga.
I'd say it's worth looking at. I don't know a whole lot about the story but I found the execution of this kid being thrust into fighting because the alternative is the death of his family and friends was just amazing. I always recommend it, and I'll do that for you too!
