Working on this expression study from the painting “The Last Day of Pompeii” done by Karl Bryullov in the 1800s.Every part of this huge painting, now at St Petersburg, is worth studying due to its dramatic color contrasts and classical emotions depicted flawlessly on every face.
My small study attempt at this portrait of Yuliya Samoylova as a model in this painting by Karl is still a work in progress as I struggle through these value gradients.. 😆 Lots of fun deconstructing this one! Stay tuned for more!
