  Short Fuse approached his step-daughter, stomping every step of the way. He was furious... BEYOND furious. He knew who would have spread rumors about him like no other. Taffy was renowned for spreading rumors about ponies...why would that stop her from spreading them about her own flesh and blood.
"Taffy! We need to have a serious talk, now-" He was quickly cut off by her.
    "What do you want, pipsqueak?" That just set him off more.
"Saltwater Taffy! I know it was you who spread that rumor around about me supposedly attempting to steal Lightning's spotlight during a show. What do you have to say for yourself young lady?" He was getting up in her face, pointing a hoof at her.
    "Well, it was true." She said, deadpan. Stonewalling her step-dad to Tartarus and back. He got up into her face more, having to almost start to float to get any closer, with his short stature. He was puffed up like a chicken and squawking like one too. She pushed him away and walked away. She didn't want to talk to him anymore.

After Taffy's scheme worked at school, the time had finally come! To go to the dance and to her win her crown! She was so excited, her dress was perfect, her makeup was perfect, and her hair... well you get the picture! She was strutting up to her mother with glee! Pinkie was slaving over the dishes in the kitchen, pretty normal for her. Pinkie had become a workaholic after five kids and two husbands took over her life.
Taffy approached her mother and tapped her shoulder. Pinkie jumped the smallest bit but didn't turn around. "How can I help you Taff? Is something wrong?"
    Taffy laughed nervously... had she forgotten? No, she couldn't have. "Uh, I'm just ready for the dance! I was wondering if you wanted to see my dress? Rarity designed it for me as a gift!" She did a little spin, but quickly realized her mother had never turned around to look. Taffy's heart sunk into her feet.
        "Hun... what dance? I thought we agreed you'd be watching your brothers tonight?" Pinkie again didn't turn around and just kept watching dishes. "Your brother's need you tonight, I have to go help your father set up for his show tomorrow."
"He's NOT my father, I have no father." Tears started welling up in Taffy's eyes. She..couldn't believe her mother was doing this AGAIN. She didn't want to watch her stupid brothers, she wanted to go out and have fun! With her friends! At the dance she's been waiting for all school year! "I'm NOT watching those creatures. You can't make me!" A single tear hit the ground.
"Yes... I can." Pinkie sighed. "You will not go to that dance, you're grounded. You have to watch your brothers." Pinkie turned and sighed. "I'm sorry, but they can't be left alone."
    "Yes, yes they can mother! Smithereens is fifteen for Celestia's sake! He can watch them for once!" She fluffed her wings up and stormed out. Pinkie sighed and stood there defeated. Then, she walked down the hallway to her son's room.
            "Smithereens, I need you to watch your brother's tonight!"
