Description The design for Nilmo was made in art class with a mechanical pencil and manilla paper.

It took all of my senior year in highschool to finish him.

He has papier mache as his core.

Next, to add strength, came cloth and glue.

His horns are made of wire, cloth & glue, and finally a tough outer covering of felt material soaked in glue.

The teeth are air-dry clay with acrylic paint.

The eye-stalks are wire covered in red felt and the eyes themselves are gourds painted with acrylic.

His finished skin is a craft fur that I burned and then tacky-glued to his body with the help of string.

Nihilmortage loosely means "belonging to the void of death"

(I'm so proud of him! He turned out just like the concept sketch!)

I am gone to say something that may be creepy, but seeing as I know the Art Teacher you had in High School due that I had her as well. I remember here telling me about this Screamer you did and wanted to see it. Now I have and it is very good. I hope it survived unlike my dragon that looks like it was in a battle and lost.

Nah, it doesn't sound creepy at all. Thanks for liking Nilmo!
Also, Nilmo is still alive and kickin' it's just some of his air dry clay teeth broke which I'm not surprised, and then, the more unfortunate accident is one of his eyes made out of gourd got crushed... He's one eyed now. But still, easy fixes really.

Do you think your dragon is repairable?

I really don't know. He is missing teeth, wings are ripped out, his tail is broken in a section. Seeing as he has tiny scales and designed to be hung I don't know. I guess I can try to fix him, altering his appearance in the process. I guess I can try. I have all the stuff needed. Maybe I will fix him up and hang him. Replace his clay teeth with something more durable and cut out a throat section. OK now I want to fix him instead of sending off in a pyre.

Ah! Good. No reason to trash your hard work when it can be fixed. Many screamers from class and other art projects like that seem to be milestone's in some artists' lives; especially those who never worked in papier mache or other craft materials before that. I had done some papier mache before, but making Nilmo was a new and in-depth multimedia project that I am proud of.

Glad to hear you are going to salvage your dragon and hang him up to be on display as he should be! Definitely take a picture when you are done. I'd love to see it.

I don't think I've seen a more impressive... creature? Monster? Thing??? The amount of work that went into it is impressive enough, but for it to turn out so well... wow. I don't really know how to critique this... I'm kinda out of my deapth

Thank you
I cannot help but say I'm proud of him. He is one of the few art projects that turned out almost exactly as I wanted.
(The only flaws are that he cannot stand up, and all of his top teeth broke later because they are only air-dry clay.

Wow, that's impressive, just to finish something that big! I love the concept, the pose the crazy eye stalks.

Is the background intentional, or just something to sit it on so you could take the photo? If the latter, I'd love to see this monster against a less a less busy scene. The horns blend in to the wall rather than standing out -- maybe a darker backdrop? I think it would make a better impact that way as a deviation, since we can't go and look at him in person

I know, but I have little variety as far as able background for him, but he also has lost all of his top teeth, and one of his eye-gourds are broken. I'd have to fix him up first before I did anything.

That looks like it must have cost you quite some time to finish . Very cool to see some other stuff than drawings, and on top of that its also very well made as well! Awesome job!

thank you so much. Time was a major factor, and I almost did not finish him, but I rushed the last few days of class and even took him home and completed it before the school year was out.

that's awesome!!

How big is he? YOu can kinda tell in the photograph... but not really.

I love the detail in him. You can tell it took a very long time and lots of passion went into creating this piece.

LOVE the burnt fur!! That is so creative.. and just adds that lil touch to him. The eyes are really neat as well... it's really almost disturbing - but so cool.

Great work!!
It's really nice to see something different and unique every now and then.

Thanks alot
I went crazy with him, and I especially love how he looks so much like the drawing even through the transition to 3D.

I left the string I used on his feet. I thought that added a nice touch to them.

Wow. That's awesome, incredibly creative. Reminds me of my own art project, when I (attempted) to make a dragon. I planned on it being maybe as big as my head, it came out half my size (good thing I'm a shorty). Ah, I'm rambling.

It took a while to make him, but unfortunately he cannot stand up any more. Oh, and all of his top teeth were broken off... aww he's almost or something. Maybe I can fix him up, but I'm not sure I can stop Lou Gering's disease lol.
