Anyone remember Tango, the robot cat from Mega Man V for the Gameboy? Similar to Rush, this feline companion was created by Dr. Light to assist Mega Man in battle.
But if Roll would start helping her brother in his fights, Tango would be the perfect companion to her. And just like Rush, Roll can use him with a special adapter to turn him into armor. Complete with sharp claws, a jetpack and Tango's trademark buzzsaw attack.
This idea was actually used in a fangame called Mushroom Kingdom Fusion, where Roll is one of the playable characters and Tango is one of her powerups.
