I've been working on this picture since April.And this is about 10% of the original size. It's about the craziest thing I've ever made. Something I'm proud of.
I do really hope everyone else likes this, too.

This is overall a testament to what persistence can do for a person. Very impressive, both the details and the overall idea. The only thing that kinda bothers me it Metal's pose. The arms are fine, he looks menacing that way, but the legs seems to be slightly awkward when I imagine him moving.

Man, this must have taken ages @_@ I love the detail of the city in the background there, and of course Metal himself looks fantastic! Very nice smooth coloring. My only nitpick would be that his pose looks odd with the way the ground is. Still, very nice!

The end result is pretty nice. I laugh at how everyone is freaking out over how many layers you used. Seriously I don't see why it's a big deal, whether it takes 20 layers or 500, what ends up mattering the most is the end result.
Excellent image, I really like how well the mecha parts came out. The shading on his fingers was really well executed. The character itself was really well painted as it really shows his characteristics. The pose is awesome and I really like how the exhaust on the back turned out.
Your background also looks pretty nice as far as perspective goes. I would suggest though for future reference that you leave all the lights at the same intensity regardless of their distance. The lights on the building furthest back look really odd since the rest of the lights are fairly bright in comparison making them look unrealistic. Your moon is pretty awesome but your stars are looking a little bland. Since you have a city scape you wouldn't necessarily see that many stars and having different sizes would give a bit more depth to your sky. I won't rattle on much more about that though since it seems the primary focus is the character and the road way on which he is travelling on. The last thing I would like to mention is that the shadows on the grass and the shadow from the mech don't match up. If there is a light source in front causing it to down cast like that, then the grass's shadows should be at the same angle.
Overall, beautiful image, you really did a nice job on it. The hours you spent on it were well worth it as your end result really came out spectacular. Keep it up.

The city looks amazing! I love how you shaded each and every building and made the lights have a glowy effect.
The street looks perfect with all that detail.
But I gotta say that my fav thing of this whole picture is the moon. XD
You actually went out of your way and made this 100% realistic to the Sonic world.

I have to say, this is more impressive than most art made by SonicTeam. I really mean that. It's hard to explain but anyway. I love how you gave it a slight retro style twist, but it still reflects your own style and some modern touches. The way you drew Metal Sonic is totally flawless. His eyes really reflect evilness here.
And every scratch of paint, every crack on the road... putting in any more detail would nearly be impossible. The background is fantastic too, I love the futuristic style it has. You even made some spotlights shining into the sky! Little things like that make all the difference.
And heheh! You brought back the moon from SA2!
