Description Well, this is my monster entry for the AQ3D: LoL contest. It was the chosen design of twenty-five I came up with for the contest, haha. I need to write a good description, haha. (Wall of text all around.) Hope you like it!

Advare (Advares, pl.)

These are ferocious, sanguinary creatures that are feared by many species due to their superb hunting skills, height and physical appearance, which consists in a large, agile body with long arms, dog-like hind legs, dark fur and a fierce facial complexion that reminds that of Undead and darkness, both largely feared elements in Lore's culture and history.

Their faces are covered by a unique bone structure - made of both calcium and keratin -, often referred to as a "mask", which is flexible and hard at the same time and which enables them to show their emotions with ease. While this structure possesses external teeth, their mouth has a second row of teeth to complement the first, and chew the flesh without difficulty. The dark blue, almost black horns they possess can come in a wide variety of shapes with different light red marks on them. Their eyes, with cat-like pupils, are meant to enable them to see both in light and darkness, and their irises cover a wide range of colors, which can be red, yellow gold, sky-blue, brown and gray. A normal Advare possesses enhanced sight and smell, far superior to that of humans, while their hearing and taste is just a little better than a human's. Their enhanced sight can be countered with a sudden flash of light which will render them temporally blind.

While they are capable of standing up in their hind legs to use their hands, Advares almost always use their arms to walk and run. Their fur is mostly dark brown or black - as they get older, it normally becomes dark gray -, and they possess a dark red mane that reminds of blood's color. The vestige of their wings is covered in feathers, according to the fur's color, with dark red alar feathers. The long tail they have ends in a feathered tuft, whose colors can be light red, dark red or orange, which always end in yellow.

In the past, they possessed large wings that they used to fly through Lore's skies and hunt terrestrial creatures, especially the Kerions - creatures that eat limestone and developed a shell, similar to the shape of an armor, which proved in time to be a superb protection against their predators. As they consumed the flesh of these armored creatures, the Advares, in turn, developed additional ribs and other visible bone structures in their bodies due to the calcium excess. Their internal strong but flexible bones, similar to that of birds, as well, became heavier, which also contributed to the "landing" (a term that Lore's zoologists employ to call the final stages in their transition from the skies to the land). They exhibit remnants of the wings, with a pair of claws each, which they use to immobilize their prey by sinking those large claws in the victim's torso. Shortly, they rip the flesh with their arms and mouth in rather disturbing manner.

Humans and other races of Lore - those who have experienced and seen these creatures - fear them; they are source of nightmares and stories that can cause any listener to get goosebumps. However, affirming that the Advares are creatures that do not care about others, given their eating habits, is an erroneous statement, as they are capable of affection towards those they have bonded with. A female Advare is capable of killing anything that threatens his nest - which usually contains one or two eggs and later, the cubs -, and males are known to protect their partner when they are together (though it is rarely needed). Once Advares meet their partner, they stay with them for some months - usually three - until they separate, always to return again once a year. An Advare couple lasts until one of them dies, and their lifespan is roughly sixty to seventy years.

This loyal and trustworthy nature makes them an amazing companion once they are tamed - a difficult, yet rewarding task for those who wish strength in the battlefield or swiftness in their travels. Their physical abilities and faithful behavior can make up for their sanguinary conduct, which diminishes notably if they are ordered to do so. As well, they will never attack from behind as this goes against their sense honor and pride. Also, while it is largely believed they are a truly fine mount for DoomKnights because of their stylish color, they are better coupled with the Paladins, since these creatures highly dislike the Undead, due to the fact they only hunt living creatures - the Undead as well go against the natural order of life and death -, and they will swiftly charge against hordes of the unliving without fear.

Attacks:
Razor Breath - They are still attuned to the Wind realm and, as a consequence, they can use it to attack. In this case, they compact wind in sphere and release it towards their adversaries in the form a gust. It can produce damage ranging from severe cuts to death, depending on the power used. They mostly use it for self-defense rather than to hunt.

Wind Burst - They surround themselves in Wind energy and can expel it in all directions to move away foes that are too close. It, as well, causes mild damage.

Dark Claw - The name refers to the claws' color, not an affinity to Darkness. It is physical movement in which they use their long, strong arms to hit its target, usually in a heavy manner. More often, they will use their "wings" to do this movement.

Bone Crunch - Using their arms, they can grab - without hurting them in the process - a small target with ease and bite it. You can imagine the outcome. However, an adventure can use this to his/her advantage as they can attack the monster eyes, which represents a weakness.

Do you think it's a good name? If you don't, suggest another.
