Well actually I didn't do much thinking when it comes to designing this fursona since I practically just put a canine into a human-like position and gave it my clothes xp
It mostly depends on personal taste how animal- or humanlike you will make your fursona. It's *your* fursona only, so anything you want with it goes :'3
Are you a fan of sparkledogs? or maybe you like realism more? Try finding examples or references to find your preferred style ^^
As for drawing canines, I'm not very good at explaining things well, but if you've got specific questions I'll happily try to answer them

Well let me tell you, I have only been drawing wolves/canines since I've seen wolf's rain and back then I was aweful xD (I didnt draw animals I only drew manga/anime basically) But I've been practising and improved over the past few years
My point is as long as you keep practising you will learn to draw the way you want to, and even though some people need more time than others, succes is guaranteed =3
(and one small tip; tracing isn't bad as long as you keep it to yourself, you will learn a lot from it xD)

Well I keep practising, of course, I just always feel like I'm not getting anywhere. Like I'm not improving like others are, and it's not good to feel like your behind on everyone...
(And I never thought of tracing really, suppose it's not my thing...)
