Would you be able to give me a full supply list of the materials that you used in the project? It would help greatly. And specifics I mean.

oh, I did this project so long ago I don't think I can remember. But I can say I used a lot of foamies and HIPS plastic, white glue, golden spray... an underbust corset for the inside... 3 mm aluminum Β sheets for the wings... 1mm fine cardborard for the feathers.... lots of velcro... that's about it, I guess...Β

pine tree is rather light and sturdy. but.... if you can find paulownia wood. I have no idea how easy it is to find or how expensive, but it is the tree with the best ratio of lightness and sturdiness. I know it is grown specifically for its wood.Β

This helps a lot on my wing frames I have laying downstairs. i used the same tutorial you posted below as well. I originally planned on a fabric cover, then glue feathers on, but this has just made a breakthrough so hopefully I can get them done by um... sometime in February. Forgot the dates of the con again. xD Well, my friend more or less wants me to go along, so I figured I should finish the wings up so I can. xD

Which joint did you tie the string to in order for it to move? That's my only question and this was an awesome tutorial! It will definitely help with my maleficent cosplay!

Also, in the 2nd picture, I see a device with the plans on it. What did you use for the digital-model?

pf.... I don't think I even have them anymore... the pattern or the feathers... I threw the costume away, except of the frame... so I am not sure I can help you with that!

Does anyone have a picture of what the wings look like with actual feathers??

ShinjusWorkshop In reply to Kyokyo25 [2014-09-17 07:49:37 +0000 UTC]
The feathers I made were cardboard because that's how they were supposed to be, but I haven't seen anybody use this system yet with feathers. It should be way easier, though...

SOOOOO AWESOME!!! Β You did an amazing job with these. Β There are some very clever things you did here, and it's definitely helping with the design for my wings. Β You rock! Β When I post a tutorial I'll make sure to link to you!

These are beyond gorgeous! I think I'm going to try to make some angel wings using a similar design. Would it be possible to get a diagram/description of how the strings were attached to the wings and arms to make the wings fold out?Β

ShinjusWorkshop In reply to CarryOnFlareon [2014-06-22 08:26:11 +0000 UTC]
There were strings tied from my elbows to one of the lower "corners" of the wings. The moment you pull up with the elbows, the wings will spread.

Super awesome! Do your wings have to be forcefully pushed into that stretched position or...idk

ShinjusWorkshop In reply to Genevieve124 [2014-04-29 06:18:48 +0000 UTC]
I had some strings from my elbows to a lower part of the wings frame when I stretched my hands, the wings would spread and viceversa.

Hello! I'm working on making some articulated wings like this, however it isn't very clear how you made the wings open out? Is it simply from what position your body is in, or is there a simple mechanism?
π: 0 β©: 1
ShinjusWorkshop In reply to BessaEccentric [2014-01-15 19:57:00 +0000 UTC]
Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention this. Basically I had a thread tied to my elbows and onto one of the lower hinges of the wings. When raising my arms, the wings would stretch.
I hope this helps.

you mean the actual pieces fr the frame or the wings themselves?Β
These are the sizes for the pieces:Β www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbiβ¦
You'll have to transform them into inches, sorry
As for the wings... hm, dunno, the longest part with the feathers is around 140 cm, I think... when I spread them they are around 3.5m wide.
