Now I understood: you made an intelligent question! That symbol is a watermark: It is an identyifing pattern on paper that indicates the paper brand. In this case watermark is FA 4, that is Fabriano ( an italian paper brand) and 4 is the type of paper ( this is a 200gr rough paper).
