NuzShim 3: I’ll Miss You

In about 45 minutes I was out of the shower, dressed, and drying my hair. I decided to just let it hang loose today. No reason to fix it up if I’m going on a journey, after all! Ha-ha.

I quickly applied a little powder and mascara. Yeah right, people DON’T look better without makeup. At least, I don’t. Plus, it couldn’t hurt, right? After putting on a few coats of my favorite chap stick, peppermint (heh), I sprayed a small cloud of weak perfume and walked through it. Heh. I love prepping.

Anyway, after all that crap, I stuffed everything in needed into my few bags, including my Xtransceiver and Pokedex, pajamas, tent, and food for both Pokémon and me. I also grabbed a few pokeballs and clipped them to my brown and burgundy belt. I just noticed that I wear some really weird clothes… Whatever. Back to the topic.

It was time to go.

I lugged my bag outside the door. It was pretty heavy for someone who had never really done something like this before. I looked around- Where was Caden? He should be here by now…

“Come on, honey, while the sun is still high. I don’t want you out traveling after dark tonight. It might be spring, but it’s still as cold as winter. He’s probably just busy,” she sighed, looking at me with sympathy and motherly sternness.

“Alright, Mom. I guess you’re right… I just wish I could have said goodbye…” I sighed meekly. I started making my way to the exit to Route 19, my mom right by me. Once we were about half way there, she turned to give me and Puddle a hug goodbye.

“Bye, my little Shimmer and Puddle! Keep each other safe and healthy, ya hear? And don’t forget to call!” she said, doing her best to smile. “Have fun!” She kissed us each on the cheek before turning to go. Once she was out of sight, I turned towards the exit. Just as I arrived, about to leave Aspertia, I heard a voice shouting at me frantically.

“WAAAIT!” It yelled. I recognized that voice anywhere. My eyes lit up like the sun and I ran and met him in a big hug. Caden quickly pulled away and started fumbling in his pocket for something. After about five minutes of fumbling- How much stuff could he fit in that pocket?!- he pulled out a small, beautifully wrapped little box. “H-here. Before you go, I got you something to remind you of me,” he grinned sheepishly, a very slight blush forming on his cheeks, as well as mine.

As if I need anything to remember you… I thought, lost in his twinkling blue eyes for a moment. I took the gift greatfully and opened in. Inside was a half of a silver circle-shaped locket on a skinny silver chain. On one side the word “Best” was engraved in gold, and on the other was a slightly smaller word also engraved in gold. This word was “Caden”. I blushed, wrapping him in a big hug. “Thanks! It’s perfect! I’ll always wear it, for sure!” I smiled.

Caden blushed as well, hugging me back. “I have the other half on my neck. I’ll never take it off. I’m gunna miss you, Shimmer. Promise you’ll visit?” he whispered. His half was exactly like mine, except where mine said “Best” and “Caden”, his said “Friends” and “Shimmer”, respectively.

“Promise. I’ll miss you, too,” I said softly, my eyes watering but not teary. I wasn’t ready to leave him, my best friend.

“Stay safe, and protect your Pokémon.”
“I will.”

Remember to stock up on potions, berries, Pokeballs, and other necessities.”

“Defiantly.”

“And most importantly, remember to visit me and Hayden, K? He already can’t wait to hang out with Puddle again. Ha-ha.” Hayden is Caden’s Snivy and Puddle’s best friend, besides me. Woah. I just realized Hayden and Caden rhyme. Cool.

“I couldn’t stay away if I tried!” I grinned, looking up at him. I never wanted to let go, but unfortunately I had to. It was time to go. I reluctantly left his arms and grabbed my bags. “See you,” I whispered.

“You too. By the way, if you ever need me, I’ll be there. No matter what, we’re a team. Got it?”

“Got it,” I said, my face lit up like the sun. Thanks, bud.

“Bye.”

“Bye.” I said and disappeared into Route 19.
