An ICE T speeds towards Cologne on the Cologne-Duisburg line, having just passed Leverkusen-Rheindorf. The T denotes that this train is equipped with a tilting mechanism that allows it to reach higher speeds on lines with many curves.
But damn, why did they leave the coupling cover open?? Totally wrecks the sight I think...

I think it's defective, as a piece of the lower sidewall is missing as well.

Maybe it flew open on the way for some reason - knocking off the now missing part.

I like how the train Sllllowwwwly blends into the flying snow....it's a great combo...white train on the white snow.
GREAT pic.
I do have one preference...that maybe the background was shaper, but that's just me, and would have required one heck of a shutter speed, in place of the flawless panning you just demonstrated.

Yeah, snow and fast trains make for some epic shots, and with the DB livery for express trains, it fits even better
I don't really know how it would've looked with the background completely sharp, it might have improved the overall quality, but the sense of speed might have been decreased as well. Though with trains travelling at 200 km/h, it would have required one hell of a fast lens to allow for sufficient shutter speeds

In retrospect, you are completely right of course, the blurred background makes the photo...I just get so caught up in "ohh....pretty naturey stuff"

IMO ICE-T doesn't seem so high-speedish as ICE3 ... and it's not because of the drawn "kisser"

I prefer the 3 as well, and it is about 100km/h faster than the T if the track permits it

The problem is, that as soon as trains are late due to ice on the catenary or other problems due to snow, people use this phrase sarcastically. Many trains were late on this day as well, an ICE trainset even stopped and stodd here for several minutes due to some problems up ahead. Even though trains might be able to cope with such weather much easier than cars, they are not completely safe from problems, and the Deutsche Bahn is generally disliked by the public.

Yeah, the open cover is kind of a nuisance, but the pic turned out so good apart from it that I thought it would be worth uploading. Quite a pity that they don't seem to pay too much attention this...
The clouds of snow trains create are always very fascinating. You should see some of the shots that I'll upload later on, it looks almost as if the train were to break the sonic barrier or something like that
