The pose is amazing because it nicely shows off his markings. I really do adore close ups like these because we get to see all the lovely details. And speaking of details-for some reason I really like the wrinkles on the neck and you even added fur and whiskers. The mane looks fantastic with all the little flyaways and the luscious highlights. Also the two white strands running through his mane are so beautiful. The details in his eye are beautiful as well and I adore his peaceful expression.
Great job on the background too. By making it snow he really stands out because he's so dark.
