Description I created the orker a little over two years ago. Aside from a simple, stylized rendition of it, its concept and sketches pretty much just sat unused in my sketchbooks. Here the orker comes to life in charcoal, 22x30 inches.

The orker concept was inspired by one of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics mascots, who was an orca/kermode bear hybrid - hence the name "orker." The orker is essentially a bear with an oca-like head, dorsal fin and tail. Its front paws are modified to be halfway between a bear foot, therefore allowing the orker to walk on land (a little clumsily), and an orca flipper, allowing it to swim with ease. They inhabit the Pacific Northwest coast (Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, Yukon and Alaska) as well as some populations scattered around northern Canada and Greenland.
