Thylacosmilus was long assumed to be an apex predator like the saber-toothed cats, but recent research seems to dispute its abilities. The teeth are not quite aligned, there are no incisors, and also the proportions of this thing are pretty weird; plantigrade hind feet, tiny short front legs?I love the idea it was an insectivore as HodariNundu depicted, and that the teeth were not sabers at all but tusks to break open termite nests. The lack of incisors could easily allow a big tongue to slide out to slurp up insects.
