I saw the movie today and I LOVED it so much that I couldn't contain myself from aqualing with excitement all the way, wanting to dance around for joy all day after I left the theatre. I know that Bellwether was the twist villain, but before then it was spoiled by someone else who said she was the villainous antagonist, only they didn't explain the full details of how it was revealed, nor did I read any books because I wanted to see for myself first. I now wonder what drove Bellwether to commit those crimes to begin with, such as thinking back to her childhood. It's possible she might have been innocent and nice like Judy long ago until she was driven off the deep edge. Of course it does not justify anyone's actions, especially not hers which were life threatening and could have killed someone, making her guilty of attempted murder. So it wasn't just one thing that drove her to this crime, it had to be other things long ago, but we can only guess such things.

Still she had to be stopped and arrested before anyone might have died. As much as I hate spoiling stuff for those that have yet to see Zootopia, she is lucky that nobody was killed and was spared the Death Sentence after her trial. So she might as well get more than 20 years in prison, or life without parole, meaning she'll have to live with what she did behind bars. For most criminals, that can be worse than the death sentence, which would have been too harsh for her.

All through the movie, there was nothing there that made her suspicious in the least, which is what I love about plot twist villains. She always acted nice toward Judy, mostly to put on the innocent act, but you can't help but still wonder if there is any soft side to her that she tried bottling up all that time, yet would never let it get in the way of her plot. It's funny how she never escaped right away or tried to after the police arrived, but even if she did, Judy would have caught up to her. But if she really were as evil to the core, she would have had her own weapon to kill the heroes that easily or anyone else to prevent getting caught, but she didn't. Who knows? There may come a day where she will deeply regret her actions that put her in jail, but she'd still remain behind bars to think about what she did. Getting out for good behavior never proves anything (such case like rapists, child molesters, or sex offenders). I was told there will be a sequel someday and I hope Bellwether returns, but she is still in jail for her crimes, yet this time we get more info and development on what drove her over the edge besides one detail. Someone once said even the smallest things in life can trigger sudden changes.Β

I had my speculation on her from the very beginning, and I was right, she is the main antagonist of the movie.

Her behavior was being mistreated by the mayor, being too innocent and nice that it is suspicious. That's how I knew.

I believe she is innocent and nice, except she was molded towards a negative path due to her being bullied and harassed by Lionheart.Β

But still, her actions were really life-threatening and severe only because she was mistreated. It's called selfishness and arrogance.

AliAsif123 In reply to NinSega [2016-03-04 07:42:09 +0000 UTC]

Truth be told, none of her actions were life-threatening since the serum only induces fear into prey animals and infects predators. Notice how she never kills anyone, never carried a lethal weapon nor even threw a punch.

She also saved Judy from being fired and put her on the case that she was responsible for. She helped Judy free the predators from their prison, even though that was her intention. There are several other discrepancies that suggest she wanted to be thwarted as well.

In the end, she called the police over and never escape the scene even though she had the evidence in her hand as well as the lab. Despite being thwarted by Nick and Judy in the end, she only wanted to frame them instead of killing them because that would've been easier, but she didn't.

All of that makes me think that she feels pity for what she's done in spite of Lionheart's ill treatment of her. Besides, she's the one doing all the work in the office, while Lionheart snoops in and steals the credit that she rightly deserves. If there is a sequel, I hope we get a better insight of her motives for turning rogue. Maybe a horrible tragedy happened in her past like the death of a parent or something else.

After all, she's taken the same path as Nick has, so perhaps he along with Judy relate to her situation the best and help her reform and forgive. That would make for an incredible plot and character development.

I know right, although I do not condone what Bellwether did in the film, there had to be more than one thing that drove her over the edge to commit these crimes and prevent anyone from suspecting her as long as she put on the innocent act. If she truly has taken the same path as Nick and Judy, it would be heartfelt if they did help her reform and forgive, even if she still needed to do her time in prison. I would love that, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Can't blame her for what she's been through before this. She took care of the mayor's job and has never ever been treated with respect or gratitude. Even still, she never really hurt anyone and in all honesty, she doesn't fit the whole villain description at all.
