Commissioned by the lovely of one of her Gaia avatars~I'm not sure if the retrovibe got across in this, i was having a lot of trouble with the hair and face (you mean.. everything? LOL) because for my hair style shading to work i had to have extra strands of hair flying around.. but it kind of makes the hair look messy? I dunno.. then again fly aways in hair are totally normal since they are unavoidable.

I like both of them. The first thing I noticed in Dora Headshot was her hair, I didn't see anything wrong with it, and I can't find anything wrong with it but maybe I don't know what I am looking for.
The secondary drawing I llike also.Overall it's good but something I really noticed was the shading and especially the highlights on her skin, like on her collarbone and her shoulder.

I love the texture you got in the hair, especially the left side of the picture (I'm not sure about the three curls in a group on the right).
Her eyes don't seem as turned as her head though.. like her right eye seems like it should be higher, or her left eye lower.
The lace cap is cute though.

Yeah.. I should of specified with my "left/ right" I just meant the eyes should be turned more with the tilt of the head.

i think the nose is the only thing on the face that needs changing. the eyes seem to be more noticeable in your over all style. i think if the shadows were more subtle and not quite as rounded (i realize nostrils on are round on the outside but shadows dont typically suggest it) i'd also widen the bridge of the nose! or take it out completely. I realize this is semi-realism but its semi realistic at the nose and then more ANIME realistic in the bridge (thiness).
other than the nose, i love the rest! the colors are great (i love how yo ualways combine reds, browns, and purples together) and i like the way you shade hair! it's always so lovely. it's 3d but flat enough that the face becomes the focal point

I did have problems with the noooooose, actually i almost always do LOL. For some reason every time i draw larger more realistic noses they look weird or don't fit, but if i make them small the bridge has to be small or i get hat weird like Bar nose that doesn't look like a nose at all? I'm not sure how to advance there x_x

well 
try shading the nose realistically but making it smaller and blend out the bridge of the nose to where you see a shadow on one side but you dont necessarily see a bridge

Ah didn't see those cause they weren't replied to my comment XD. The last one might be helpful, the others are just how to draw a nose in that exact angle and shape XD. I think i just need to get a god damned mirror again. I didn't bring mine when I moved and now i'm just guessing because i have no way to do a quick reference ~_~
And definitely the style thing XD, I think i'm leaning too realistic right now, if it were more animu it would fit probably *head tilt*

It is lovely! The only thing I can think of to help with the retro vibe, if you really want to push that aspect, would be to alter the hair a bit. You could either give her short hair (most of the hair styles in the 40's and 50's was short and curled) - but I'm not a fan of that idea, since her hair looks so pretty long; or you could think about giving her bangs, Bettie Page style. Nice work, I love your style!
