Hey Shannon...is this based on a 3d model or a photograph?

Hey isidore, well, it appears to be a slow reply to your question, but yes, it was based on Lisa-Marie Thompson (The London based model). She had approached me about illustrating a picture of her. I couldn't pass up the opportunity!

its easy to understand what is a 3d model and what is not...the hard thing to tell is the hair...i have a few thoughts how he does it but im not sure.. i wish he would make a tutorial for that...i understand that its a technique that might took several years to accomplish and maybe he doesn't wish to share...

Found the tutorial on his website www.balancegfx.com/spotlight/ (sadly it's only a link to the magazine, still have to buy the issue)
As far as i can remember the hair is painted (and it looks very painted to me), also because the hair in blender is very shitty.
I also saw workshops were he used photos. So...he does everything I guess. Too bad he tags everything in his gallery as digital painting and not as photomanipulation when it's the case :/
