Description You are a human who lives alone in a small house on a cliff that overlooks the sea. You’re miles away from the nearest town, but you don’t really mind. The only things that could be considered bad about your living situation are the storms…and the predators.
Not that you’ve actually ever seen one of said predators – yes, there are some wolves from time to time, even a bear once, but they leave you and your home alone for the most part. No, what’s always worried you are the tails of the merpeople.
Apparently they’re enormous, the average man barely the length of one of their fingers, and they have a craving for the flesh of humans. They attack ships at sea and devour the sailors, or at least, that’s what you’ve heard. And you live close enough to the ocean that you’re sure one could just reach out and destroy your little hut and yourself along with it.
But so far, none of this has happened, and you dismiss it – for the most part – as one of the ridiculous tales people tell their children.
And then, one night, another storm comes. You just sit it out, as you always do, but you could swear that through the thunder and chaos you can hear a voice, calling out for help. But of course, that’s stupid; nobody ever comes out this far, especially during a storm.
The next morning, however, you walk out to get a breath of fresh air, the storm mostly a memory and a faint drizzle now…and see an enormous shape on the beach. Forty feet from head to…tail?
You realize that you’ve finally seen what the legends speak of. There, on your beach…is a merperson. However…it doesn’t look like it’s trying to attack anything at the moment, in fact it looks to be unconscious…and you can see a large, still bleeding wound in its tail.
What do you do?

RULES. READ ‘EM. PLEAAAASE.

(I would like to give this one a whirl. Il be myself, a 16 year old male, also with Brown skin)
Peering out from the window of my little house on the shore, I couldnt believe my eye's. "Look at the size of that fish.", I said looking at its tail end, however, my eyes trailed up the body of the Strange sea creatures to lay my eyes on the human part of its body, Wait human? I said in my mind, I had been warned about Mermaids and Merman in oceans, but now its within walking distance of my home! A normal person wouldve called Animal Control or something, but this mer-person looked like a meer child, so I decided to get a closer look out it. I Ran outside and onto the beach to the creature to see it was uncconsuss. That is sorta a good thing AND bad thing. Good thing is that it gives me to examine the Creature, However its a bad thing its unconccius, beacuse its hurt.

(^w^)

Kobi brushed her hair from her face as she pulled on her boots, thinking to walk along the beach and get some fresh air. She was a young woman, around twenty, but had lived on her own there in the beach house for a few years. She was average height and tan skinned. Her hair grew thick and long and somewhat curly. As she walked outside, it whipped around in the wind, making her have to hold it back from her face as she walked. She saw the creature and froze, brown eyes going wide. She stepped back slowly towards the house, hoping the sound of her boots on the rocky shore wouldn't wake the beast.

Cori slowly blinked his eyes open, wincing at a light much brighter than any he was used to. He turned his head, feeling oddly...heavy, and dry, which was something he'd never experienced before. He tried to sit up, only to feel a sharp pain radiating from his tail and lower stomach. Part of it was from hunger, but as he looked down he saw a deep wound that looked sort of like a bite mark.

And then he remembered it, that monster that had attacked them, frantically beginning to look around for his mother. She'd been with him before he'd gotten here! He was sure of it, she'd told him to stay there and that she'd be back later, but she still wasn't back, and...and...

"Mom? Mom!" He called, the panic in his voice growing.

(Cori's about ten years old, he's got pale skin (from being in deep waters most of the time), light blue eyes, shoulder-length brown hair, and scales that vary from a deep, sapphire blue to light, almost white color on his underbelly. He's got long, pointed ears that are the same color as his tail, and they change position according to his mood. For instance, now, they'll be pointing straight up.)

Kobi froze when she saw the creature move, tensing. Shit shit shit...

She saw the injuries and felt relieved. Maybe it'd die soon and she wouldn't have to worry... When it spoke, her mouth opened slightly with shock. It... could talk? Calling for his mother... She looked around, afraid the female would show up any moment.

Cori's heart sank when he heard no reply, and his mother didn't show up, either. He needed to get to the water, she'd be able to hear him if he was in the water!

But the tide had gone down, leaving the ocean a good distance away from him. And his tail hurt so badly, he didn't think he'd be able to drag himself all the way there.

Still, that didn't stop him from trying, pulling himself a little ways across the sand before letting out a small cry of pain and stopping, only to repeat the process again.

She pursed her lips, tense, and tried not to make a sound as she watched. She felt pity for the poor thing... it was just a baby...

She chewed her lip, torn... should she do anything...? It was dangerous...

When he cried out, she sighed. Damn it... And edged slowly closer. "H-hey..."

Cori paused, his ears lifting when he heard something like a voice. His face lit up with hope for a moment as he turned to face, it. "Mo-" His eyes narrowed at the sight of some small, odd creature standing on the sand. It didn't have a tail, which was extremely strange, but other than that and its size, it looked a lot like him...

"What sort of thing are you?" He asked, giving a small, disappointed sigh.

"I'm... human..." she said, still unsure about getting closer. "Are you okay?" She made herself get at least near enough to look over his wounds, but not yet near enough for risking being grabbed.

Cori's nose twitched as the 'human' came closer. She could talk, so he couldn't eat her, but she definitely smelled good...like food...in sync with his thoughts, his stomach gave a loud rumble. "Human...I've never heard of that before. I...uh, I got bit by this giant monster thing, but I think I'm okay...I just need to get to the water. And food. Yeah, I definitely need food..." He trailed off, swallowing. He could barely think through how starving he was.

She stopped, digging her heels in, when she heard his stomach growling. "Giant monster? What kind?" Would it affect her? "Um... wha-what do you eat?" He looked pitiful... but she still could only think of the stories she'd heard of the merfolk...

Cori tried to answer her question, but he hadn't ever gotten a good look at the monster. "I'm not sure, it was all dark and stormy when it attacked us." His eyes brightened at her asking about his diet. Was she going to bring him food? "Fish, or any kind of meat, really." He replied eagerly, nearly drooling at the thought of meat.

She nodded, swallowing nervously. "Okay, um... I'll try and find something for you..." She went around the house toward the pen in the back where she kept a few goats and chickens. "I can spare a goat..." she called back. "Does it need to be cooked or anything?"

Shadowdancer172 In reply to MythicMinx [2014-01-27 23:57:23 +0000 UTC]

Cori frowned, tilting his head in confusion. "A...goat? And what's 'cooked' mean?" He assumed a goat was some kind of land animal, which was fine, because he doubted meat from up here tasted any different than it did from in the ocean. The word she had used, though, 'cooked'...he had no idea what that was all about.

MythicMinx In reply to Shadowdancer172 [2014-01-28 00:28:38 +0000 UTC]

"Cooked is when you... nevermind..." She sighed and pulled the animal along out of the pen. She tied a rag over its eyes so it wouldn't spook and make a run for it and led it back around towards the merchild. "A goat is one of these."

Shadowdancer172 In reply to MythicMinx [2014-01-28 00:40:36 +0000 UTC]

Cori looked at the new animal curiously and more than a little hungrily. His gaze was still oddly fixed on the goat, a predatory look in his eyes as he replied, "Oh, okay then...yes, that's fine, that's perfect, thank you." He was eager for her to bring the animal closer, because although he'd never hunted before, he'd seen his mother do it plenty of times before, and his jaws were already twitching at the thought of food...it had to have been at least a week since he'd last eaten, and it was painful, like someone had just scooped out all his insides. He wanted to eat, now.

She nodded, bringing it closer. She stopped when she was still out of reach, afraid of getting any closer... but she stepped forward again, leading the goat, and came into reach for him. I'll just run when he goes for the goat... yeah...

Shadowdancer172 In reply to MythicMinx [2014-01-28 00:48:54 +0000 UTC]

Half of Cori was tempted to grab the human as well, but that wasn't really him, that was just his hunger. He ignored it, but snatched up the goat as soon as it was within reach, his teeth snapping shut on its neck and killing it quickly. His teeth were sharp, made for tearing meat, and so it was barely two minutes later that he'd eaten the entire thing, bones and all. His digestive system could process almost anything, so it wasn't a worry for him.

She yelped when he snatched the goat, jumping back and scrambling to be out of reach again. She watched with wide eyes, unable to look away, as he ate. It was... fascinating... in a morbid and disturbing way. And frightening... "Is... is that enough?" she asked when he was finished.

Cori licked his lips, giving a contented sigh. He could still eat more, of course, but that goat had been plenty for him. He grinned at the human. "Yep, thanks! All the stories say humans are mean, but you're really nice." Talking to someone like this, he was almost able to forget about the wound in his tail that still stung, or the fact that his mother was still in the water, somewhere.

Cori paused. "Er...I can't think of anything, no. Bu-" His words broke off when an odd, shrieking screech filled the air, his ears standing up as he looked towards the water. Sure enough, a fin that was just barely visible from where he was broke the surface of the water. It looked small, from here, but he'd seen it close-up and knew it was many times larger than he was.

Cori looked worried and a little fearful. "It's the monster...the one that tried to hurt me and Momma yesterday." He shuddered. "I don't think it can get up here, though, it's too big...but Momma is still out there..." He shook his head, giving a slightly unsure smile. "No, Momma's fine. She's too smart for that thing to get her."

"Oh..." she said softly. Something that could hurt a mercreature like the ones she'd heard about... She didn't want to imagine such a thing. "It hurt you?" She looked closer, noticing the extent of his injuries. Poor kid... "If...If I try and clean your wound... promise you won't do anything?" She took a tentative step closer. "Just that... humans have stories about your kind too... I want to help, but you have to promise."

Cori's eyes, which had been fixed on the disappearing fin, now went to the human, looking a little surprised and a bit more confused. "No, I won't do anything...but what do you mean clean it? I didn't know you cleaned stuff like this...but then, I've only ever gotten little cuts, off of shells and stuff...so is that what you do with big cuts? Clean them?" He asked curiously.

She gestured vaguely. "Well... so it doesn't get infected... I guess it's something surface dwellers deal with more often, not being surrounded with salt water... Just hold still, huh?" She moved hesitantly closer, touching tentatively at the edges of his wounds, and studied the gashes. "I'll just clean it, then see what I can find to bandage it..."

Cori did his best to stay still, but he couldn't help but flinch when he felt a feather-light brush near his wounds. He nodded, tilting his head a bit. "How do you clean it? And what's a...ba....bandage?" He pronounced the word a little off.

She couldn't help but smirk slightly. "Well, once I see how deep it is and how much of whatever got in it, I'm going to go get some water and a soft rag," she said. "And then I'll bandage it. Which is wrapping it so nothing can get in and hurt you more." She pat him gently and jogged away to the house to get what she needed. She returned a few minutes later with a bucket of warm water, a cloth, and a couple old bed sheets to use as wrappings.

She was as gentle as she could be as she cleaned it, getting out the sand and bits of shell. And a chip of a tooth... She pocketed that just in case, then set the bucket aside as she started ripping sheets into long strips. "It might need stitches... those hold the edges together so they can heal right... But I don't think I have anything I can use for that on you... And I'm hardly a doctor.." Or a vet... "I'll do the best I can with these, okay?" She smiled at him, a bit awkwardly, to try and encourage him.

Cori winced as she cleaned his wound, every now and then letting out a quiet growl that rumbled in his chest, trying his best to stay still for her. It hurt, but this lady seemed very nice, and he could tell she was trying to be as gentle as she could.
He let out a small sigh when she was done with the cleaning, glad at the relief of the pain. He gave a little nod when she told him about the 'stitches' and things, murmuring, "O-Okay..." And hoping that this part didn't hurt as much as the last one. The end of his tail flicked slightly, shifting heavily on the sand.

Cori was happy to find that he did, in fact, feel much better, his wound no longer stinging with sand and grit caught in it, and bandaged as well.
"Better! Thank you!" He gently pulled her closer with a hand, nuzzling gratefully into her stomach - like he'd used to do with his mother. Although, his mother was quite a bit bigger...but still, he was sure this would send the same message across.

Cori lifted his head, thinking. "No...I don't think so." His hand remained behind her, but less as an actual restraint and more because he didn't think to move it. He lowered his chin to rest on one arm, watching her curiously. "So how do you humans live, anyway? The stories don't really say anything about that. You're really tiny, though, so how do you hunt and stuff? Do you sneak up on things?" He gasped at a stray thought. "Whoa, are humans poisonous?" The boy, it was becoming clear, was a talker.

Kobi sighed, berating herself for being unable to relax for the boy. He was jus ta kid, after all... She did her best to seem at ease in his hand as she thought how to answer his questions. "Heh... well... we're not poisonous," she said, smiling a bit. He really was just a kid... "Humans don't hunt much anymore... but we used just... chase things... whatever we could catch... now we keep livestock and grow some plant foods. Get stuff from stores when we don't grow our own..."

Cori's ears lifted in interest, and he asked, "What's a store? And how do you eat plants? They taste nasty and they made me sick when I tried to eat them." His kind were a purely meat-eating species, which was clear by the fact that all of his teeth were sharpened. Of course, the young mer hadn't known this a few years back when, curious, he'd tried to eat some seaweed.

"A store is... a place.. a building like that," she gestured back at her cabin, "Sometimes small, but sometimes really big--I've seen some you could fit in several times over--and they've got lots of different things stored there. Some are for food, some for other things... You go and find what you want or need and give them a certain amount of money for it."

He thought he'd have to stay in the shallows, so the monster didn't get him, but even shallow water was better than no water.

Cori paused, and then shrugged. "I don't know. I've always been in water, and Momma never told me what would happen if I stayed on land. I do feel really heavy, though..." He narrowed his eyes as he looked at the distance between him and the shoreline, as though it was personally offending him. Slowly, he began pulling himself back, wincing slightly as the movement tugged at his wound. It felt much better than the first time he'd tried, though, and he thought he could make it.

Krissa's body ached all over as she laid there in the sand. The worst of the pain came from her dark green tail; it felt as though she had been cut open. Which is exactly what had happened, although for the life of her she couldn't remember how. All she remembered was that it had been storming the night before. God, she hurt so much that she could barely even open her eyes...

Also, actually remembering to describe my character in the first comment! His name's Leonard, but he goes by Leon. Average height, about eighteen. Muscular and well tanned from spending all day every day out in the sun and often on the water. He has sun-bleached light blond hair and dark green eyes. He wears simple comfortable clothes that allow for a wide range of movement, and most of his clothes have sea salt permanently ingrained into them.))

Leon was headed to his boat, to go out onto the sea, but the enormous being he saw on the beach stopped him before he was halfway to the sheltered cove where he kept it. He stared in amazement for a while before he noticed the wound. After that, an inner battle raged. Should he help the beast, or let it die? Finally, helping it won out. Leon knew that he couldn't just stand by and let an innocent creature die, even if it would likely kill him once it woke. Retuning to his house, Leon brought out several sheets to use as bandages.

Good job! : D My character is, like I said, about ten years old, he's got pale skin (he spends most of his time in deeper waters), light blue scales, shoulder length brown hair, and blue eyes. He's got a sleeker build, to help him swim more easily. His name is Cori.)

Cori didn't wake while the human was fixing up his wound, at least, not entirely. After a while, though, the scent of the human had made it's way to his nostrils, his nose twitching at the scent of meat, of something that was unidentified but most definitely food. And he was starving...he hadn't eaten since the last time he'd seen his mother, and that was a few days ago.

His eyes slowly blinked open, taking a few moments to adjust to being awake, before he felt a slight motion where the pain in his tail was coming from, and one hand slammed down on top of the creature, pinning it to the sand as he sat up slowly and painfully, staring at it with confused, hungry, but most of all predatory blue eyes. He'd never hunted before, but his instincts were telling him this small creature was perfect prey.
