This is my entry for 's contest. What a timing, I'm probably late. Not a big suprise. XD
The task was designing element marks on her character's, Rhais' paws and head.
I have something to say about these markings, but I'll edit the descriptions later, otherwise this picture would be too late, I fear. I'll edit the markings too.

This is done on a A3 sized paper that was cut smaller. Te bg sucks, I know. Those are clouds, btw. I'm never going to stylize anything for a while if it leads to this. T__T And scanner raped the lighnings. Yay. And anatomy faults rule. But I'm happy with Air (left foreleg) and Fire (right foreleg) designs.~

Edit; My tablet is alive! 8D Now I can draw more digital art. n__n
And I also managed to add those markings. They look quite crappy, I can't use tablet that well anymore. >8( But I hope you like them. Descriptions will be added later.~

Edit2; Managed to write something about the elements and the symbols. The result is at least as crappy as the scan of the picture, especially the lighnings... Bohoo.

Then about the symbols. (You should look at the symbols that are drawn on the black bg, my correction pen was too thick for drawing the symbols on the legs and head. u____u)

The symbol on the head represents thunder, chaos. Since lightning isn’t an actual element, it isn’t stable and though it is natural it can bring only destruction and chaos. Controlling the power of lightning is difficult and dangerous and recommended only for the most skilled ones. If you have learned how to use the basic elements, fire, air, earth and water, controlling lightning isn’t so hard.
Lightning users have to be really careful since lightning is unpredictable and it may strike when you least expect it. The symbol that represents lightning is placed on forehead. It may be the most dangerous place for the symbol, but it is also the safest place for it. On the forehead it is closest to the user’s thoughts and therefore it’s easiest to control and predict. The symmetry of the marking may lead you wrong – lightning isn’t like that. It goes its own ways and not as expected. The marking may tell you that. First it goes straight then strikes but it may change its course.

The symbol on the right arm is for fire that also represents change. Fire has power to warm, to light and also burn and it is essential for life. Fire can burn everything down if it has chance to. Unlike lightning, fire can be controlled more easily. Even though fire burned down a whole forest, the forest is able to come back alive because fire doesn’t destroy everything. It allows changes new chances.
The symbol is like fire. It varies - it has thicker and thinner lines and has no stabile pattern though the theme is still the same. The symbol resembles the fire we can see. The shape is alike and the flames which go in different directions.

Symbol for air element is placed on the left arm. Air is another change symbol, fire is the other one. You can’t see air or wind but you may see the effects it has. Air is everywhere, it can flow as quiet, warm wind or it may turn into a huge storm. Anyway, air is pretty easy to control. It is natural and essential for life like the three other base elements. Air can symbolize freedom since it may go its own ways like it has no limits. It is independent its range is huge. It could easily take over anything but its nature isn’t like that. Air isn’t a vicious element, it is kind and playful but it may rage from time to time. Like a young child.
The symbol represents air as well as it’s able. We can’t see its true being so we can only guess. Like fire and lightning, it has no stabile pattern though it has the theme it follows. The symbol separates like the air does and it goes in different directions and can easily turn around. The lines are all pretty thin as the element is light and graceful.

Water symbol is placed on the left leg and it represents balance. Water is a stabile element and it is essential for life. Without water, life wouldn’t be possible. With earth element it forms the land and seas, the world we’re living in. Fire and air are as essential as earth and water, but earth and water create the base.
It isn’t difficult to seal waters power, but it is quite hard to command. Controlling water isn’t hard anyway. Once you learn it, it is easy. Water itself doesn’t move or for example, form waves. It needs the other base elements. But once you learn how to move water, it becomes a powerful element you are able to command very easily. Even though water has dangerous powers and it may destruct, it is natural and well balanced.
The symbol that represents water is pictured like water. The symbol bends like water and some points are thicker or thinner than the others. The symbol has it’s theme and is stabile.

And the last but not the least, earth. The symbol is placed on the right leg and the element represents balance and is another balance element. Like water, sealing the power of earth is easy, but commanding it requires practise and patience.
Earth is strong and old element and like water, it needs something to be able to move. But when you learn how to move it, how to use the huge powers of earth, it becomes really strong element that has destructive powers, yes, but if the power of earth is used wisely, there should be no problems.
The symbol is has very thick lines and it’s somewhat stable. Earth can be seen in different forms and shapes like mountains, flat areas, canyons and so on. The symbol tries to represent at least some of those shapes and the being of earth.
