I drew Gaster without his head cracks because this happens before his fall therefore his head should be fine (and he should look more like a skeleton?)
THEORY TIME: Since Gaster is the one who created flowey (because he mentions using the first flower to blossom after Toriel left, and Alphys didnt know Toriel) its more than sure that he created the DT extraction machine. And so the topic: What if he used Chara's Determination (because since its a human soul it wont turn to dust)on the flower and that's why flowey acts in such a horrible way? Because so far no other humans had fallen down yet so the only Determination source HAD to be chara's soul.
I'd also like to say that, maybe, the creation Gaster fell into wasnt the core but FLOWEY. Because although the gaster followers say "they say he created the core" and that he "fell into his creation" the core doesnt have time/space distortion abilities, but if Gaster (and his followers) ''fell'' into Flowey the many resets that Flowey did could make Gaster (and his followers) "shatter" and fall in different timelines therefore ''erasing him'' (and his followers) from his original timeline/world.
And where does Sans and Papyrus fit in all this?
Well... i have no idea.. maybe they're pieces of Gaster that just happened to be in the same timeline and decided to stick together as "brothers"???

Actually, camila (creator of glitchtale) explained that asgore had asked the current royal scientist to collect monsters who were fallen down, and conduct the DT experiments. That couldnt have been alphys' because she was with mettaton (ghost form) and wasn't a royal scientist yet. Mettaton is the reason alphys is the royal scientist in the first place. Gaster was the one who created flowey. I'd link you to the post, but I'm on mobile right now. It has alot more info than I'm explaining right now. But I'm guessing he started the DT experiments, and alphys finished them, but not exactly the way gaster planned.

This is Undertale, not Glitchtale. Everyone knows it was Alphys who was messing with determination, because she made the amalgamates. She made Flowey the same way she made the amalgamates. Putting determination in a flower, or monsters who had fallen down. Camila isn't Toby Fox last time I checked. She can't say what is cannon in UT. Only Toby can.

Also, the amalgamates were the first step in them, other than Flowey, and it's very hard to believe that Gaster would only put DT in a Flower, then stop.

This is funny, but if they'd still had Chara's soul then they'd already have had seven souls once they obtained the other six, and just because Alphys didn't know Toriel personally doesn't mean that she couldn't have been told that the first golden flower bloomed before Toriel left. Also, it's pretty clear that Flowey became so evil because he couldn't feel any love or empathy without a soul, and in the Genocide path he reveals that he only became evil after he found that he didn't get any satisfaction from being good. And if Gaster didn't fall into the core, the creation he fell into was probably the broken machine in Sans's workshop, since it's implied to be some sort of time machine or something like that.

That thing about the machine makes sense, but ill stand strong with my other points (at least until im completely turned down)
Just because they had seven souls doesnt mean the barrier could be automatically broken, they could only break it after you defeat asriel (after you save chara and theyre willing to give up their soul) when he ascends into air and does that thingy with he souls. Alphys could have been told a flower bloomed but how could she NOT KNOW the queen, she's clearly surprised to see 2 boss monsters in the end of the pacifist run. And even if flowey was evil becuase he wasnt happy being good, the only DT source available was chara's soul. The other flowers in the lab have maintaned themselves with for so many years because they were also injected with DT, they just werent successful cases.

Actually, the original plan was for Asgore to absorb the souls and break the barrier once they had all 7, and it's implied some of the other souls had fallen down by that point.

They couldn't have had any source of determination before frisk fell cause when Asriel absorbed Chara's soul, it became 1 soul, and when Asriel "died" both Chara's and Asriel's souls dissapeared without a trace. Basically. their souls turned to dust. the only way they could use the DT extractor would be that they used it BEFORE Chara's death.

We know asriel's body turned to dust but human souls persist. the other fallen kids soul's were preserved just fine. Humans souls probably need a container to persist if so chara's and asriel's combined soul are in that creepy looking power generator we see in the abandoned lab (since gaster couldve found the soul and brought to the lab were he worked AND since it has a heart shape and a creepy smile above it). If you look at asriel in the last pacifist run fight the heart shape on his chest looks like 2 hearts combined (since chara is still with asriel). and after saving all your friends you go and ''save someone else''(who is resonating within asriel's soul. one last person that needs saving), that someone else isnt asriel, it's chara. right after saving them you get a flashback to when chara fell and was SAVED by the dreemurr's. and it's then when asriel starts feeling weird and losing concentration, because chara wont go against frisk anymore.
Also, right after saving chara, asriel says how he's fighting to keep ''you'' around. That definitely works are foreshadowing

About your theory, makes sense that Flowey acts so violent and evil, after all Asriel absorbed Chara's soul before dying. That surely explain a lot of things from the game.

Flowey had no soul, but chara's determination made him act like such a bully. but idk what happened to chara's and asriel's combined soul's after asriel died. i mean, it could be that it's in the secret laboratory in the power room (after all asriel just happens to call you after frisk turns the power back on and since asriel and chara combined souls asriel's soul would remain as long as chara's was still there) but so far many pieces of this puzzle are still unsolved so every option is open!

well, i was thinking about it, and gaster couldn't have gotten chara's soul, bc he couldn't have extracted it without the dreemurs knowing, (he would have been fired most defiantly) and asriel absorbed it right away after chara's death so idk? and how does one fall into a flower? and also do we really know if the core doesn't have time distortion abilities? idk??

yeahh we dont really know. some parts of the theory are just speculation but.... aren't all theories mostly just speculation?
That theory is what i like to make out of the ut story, it still leaves a lot of plotholes but its fun making it so always try to make better and more fitting
The real lab has an elevator connecting right to the new city so it is a possibility that gaster took the soul. And if a monster absorbs a human soul wouldnt that mean that they combine and that combined soul can persist thanks to the human's soul determination(?). i honestly dont have all the pieces together, your comment gives me things to think about!
