Description After a comment that Seeraphine left on my last Parch-doodle, I've been thinking... what if I remade Accidental Elemental to be not to do with Spyro, but totally its own original story?

I'm feeling rather torn on this matter, to be honest... I really like the idea of making Accidental entirely original, but at the same time, I would feel sad to totally abandon the Spyro version... I had some really neat stuff planned. :3 But at the same time, there are things about an original A.E. that really intrigue me. Let us look at the pros and cons:

PROS:
~I could actually publish the comic and not worry about copyright problems
~An original story would likely be closer to my heart than a fan story and I might be less inclined to lose inspiration
~A fan story turned original could be better than before (I've already experienced this with a story that used to be called 'Cynder's Tale' and now has nothing to do with Cynder at all... it's way better now )
~A fresh start might do this story good in terms of 'reignition'
~People who aren't familiar with Spyro would not be 'left out' at any point when reading it

CONS:
~I'd have to start drawing all over again from page one
~I'd have to abandon all the neat Spyro-world-specific stuff I was planning
~Spyro fans following Accidental might be disappointed

Chances are that even if I did restart the comic as something original, I would still share the Spyro version in text form (doing two comics of that quality at one time would be exhausting ) so that everyone would still know where that's going. There would be two versions of the same story. It would be kind of like Legend of Zelda, wherein the same characters and settings are in every game but reimagined.

What do you guys think? I'd love opinions. Would you all still like Parch and co. if they were captured in a non-Spyro context? EDIT: Opinions received, considered, and highly appreciated! Thank you everyone!

I have a question about this reboot. Will Fire now be the only element, or will there still be some others?

Yes and no. I have an interesting idea concerning the Elements for the reboot... I'm sure I'll elaborate later.

Well to be honest I think it was original to start with even with the spyro backstory but I really like the story so as long as you dont change the actual story I would be happy (I mean even if you did I would still love it im sure)

That would be a great idea, especially if most of the spyro-specific stuff (purple dragon, Chronicler, guardians ect) only have very minor importance in your story or (pretty much)  don't appear at all.

Dude, I reckon you should turn it into your own original story instead of a fanfic. Admittedly, I have no idea how good the fanfic storyline is with A.E. But I reckon it would translate very well into an original story. Just have to tweak a few details here and there to accommodate the dropped spyro points.

That's what i did with my comic TSoP, I originally create my characters to live inside the spyro universe but then I thought "screw it, I'll give them their own story in their own world" And ever since making that decision, I can only explain it like this: "If the drive of my inspiration to make my comic was a car motor, I'd be a f***ing FERRARI right now!!" It's much more fun diving into the specifics of this new world and figuring out every little detail about the characters, landscape etc. of this world you're creating for your own story, instead of having to mix it into an existing world

So I'd say go for making your comic an original story, I reckon you'll feel much better towards it, and I know that we will all be here to support both you and your story ^^

I think it has amazing potential to be an original story if that's the path you want it to go down.  Really either way would be amazing!!!

Create a new audience along with the old audience you've obtained from the previous comic, re-draw the comic with fewer pages and details in mind to lessen the workload, and publish the comic!

You've much more freedom with originality and greater inspiration from your OWN ideas than using fan characters that cannot be used outside of copyright.

For example, I've made two fan comics for those fans of that franchise. I dropped that franchise due to lack of inspiration in favor for my own ideas and, consequently most of those watchers are gone, however I've created a bigger audience with two of my OC comics that I'm currently working on! Originality works.

The idea of re-doing the story is... nice. But it would render the work you already put into it useless. And I want the rest in text ASAP. Like... I love planning and worldbuilding. Your future of the comic as a wall of text is even more compelling to me than the comic itself, to be 100% honest.

I totally didn't see that possibility coming.

I can see the pros and cons, bu in the end I can't say which one I'd love more.

I would love to Accidental Elemental as an original story.  Much better than a fanfic.
Original stories are always so much better! I would not worry about the Spyro fans.  Anyone who would stop reading it due to that, is not a good watcher to begin with.

Parch looks really good in this style.  I like the glowy magic fire on his wing.

I have red your books like i said before and they are awesome, so seyng this comic expanded on to it's own story wold be great, even at the cost of losing the spyro fells.

btw i don't know if this is a great. But you cold ask someone to draw the original comic for you, wile you make the new version. . . if you do want to start a new one . . .

Ya know Im thinkin... you might not have to redraw every page. You could just edit in the horns and wings. Draw over them It could work.... IF you decide to go with the redesign that is. I really like both versions. This one's very delightfully dragon looking, while the other is very cute and familiar. Whatever you choose, both I love

I like Seeraphine's suggestion! I say go for it if that's what you want to do! I would read the Spyro version whether it was text or comic, to be honest; you've captured my attention!

But I always love original works by artists, too. I've always felt bad about being more capable of working on fan fiction because I always felt like half the work was done for me, in the sense of world-building and well-known characters. But when I work on an original piece, I always get stumped on where to go with it.

Anyway, my point is, do what helps you move forward! What makes you feel good and what you want!

I'd rather see it finished how it is rather then rewrote... But its not like I'd stop reading if you changed it up Its up to you where you want your story to go. However, I will be extremely sad to see another Spyro fan comic disappear in to the wind like dust, So many are losing interest or quitting out of spite for the fandom.

Honestly you won't have to change much panels to make AE non spyro related.

As is it know, spyro and related event acts as some sort of distant "mythology" and the chronology really helps here, there's what? 800 years difference between the 2 stories?
Anyway AE is already a good original story on its own and the spyro material act more like a cool easter eggs

So for my pov, no point to bother in an intricate rewriting on yur comic ( for what i can see of the released comic).
But if it can help you in terms of reignition like you say, go for it!

Half the Spyro fanbase (fanbase artists that is) made Comics based on the Spyro universe with no worry to copyright issues. Xanador/RusCI/DragonofIceandFire, ShaloneSK, Seeraphine, DragonCid.... all these people have their own Spyro stories yet they have no CR issues.

That is tough. Now you have me thinking on my own comics. Both are Spyro based but I have delved further into one than the other. But I have great Spyro based ideas for both. The Spyro relation gives it a bit of a grounding in my opinion but having an original story would be great.

I think that you should keep your first chapter that you did as a sort of alternative start or a Spyro based start. Continue where you left off on that chapter but make it a sort of second start of an original story. That way you can start over without really starting over and have that beginning for Spyro fans. Hope you make a decision you feel is right for you.

personally I say don't remake it and kept it in a Spyro context since in one of your earlier pages you stated that Spyro and Cynder just vanished never said they died or anything like that so they could come back to save the world again with Parch leading the charge.

Blaze8884 [2016-03-22 03:35:15 +0000 UTC]

I think it's a wonderful idea. While I would be slightly disappointed to see the story completely leave the Spyro universe, my curiosity at this whole new world far exceeds that of my disappointment. However, you have a point in saying that it would be a lot of work catching the story back up. In the end it's a choice you as the author/artist has to make....

MalsaraNightShadow [2016-03-22 03:27:28 +0000 UTC]

But this is already original story. I mean... oh... Your comic not so "Spyro-story", what you think. This is more original. If you want, you can a little change your comic, that it will be more original, but why you have to reimagined all of the story? Or you can just redraw some "spyro"-pages. That way you can save most part of comic, but create some new in story. But... to be honest... I don't think that you should reimagined all of the comic.

AveryCF [2016-03-22 02:40:44 +0000 UTC]

Ugh, this is painful. I can see what you mean and also see potential on both ends. However for the sake of it, you already put so much work into the comic where it started in the future Spyro universe... If I were you, I wouldn't change it just for the sake of how much you'd redo it. However if it was a new story, i'd shoot for the stars... ;c; I guess, i'd decide depending on how much work would have to happen? I support you in anything you choose though, good luck. ;3;

Oof, same problem here. I'm converting a pokemon fanfic into an original novel (or at least I'm going to start and see how it goes). I'm going to have to leave out/heavily modify my pokemon characters even though they're what made me write the story in the first place. At this point though, everything's so different from the source material that it's basically not even fanfiction anymore.

So I recommend you start working on the completely original version and see how you like it? You can always switch back, lol.

Zarienai [2016-03-22 00:20:26 +0000 UTC]

I personally would like either. I enjoyed the fan-comic as it was because though it was based on spyro there were no true 'canon' characters. It felt original. However I am also curious to see what you would do with the gang when taking out the spyro related things.

On another note, Scorch with 'hand wings' looks awesome.

Welllll I would keep it as a fancomic. I have a soft spot for fan things in general...and it's why I watched you in the first place. The idea is super unique for a Spyro comic, and that's special and awesome.

But! If you decide otherwise I'll be happy with the text version and support it still.

Honestly, as one of the people who was following it as a result of the Spyro link? I would absolutely adore seeing you remake it as an original thing. I'm sure others would be disappointed. Your art is gorgeous, your grasp of storytelling is awe-inspiring and your dragons are beautiful. I might have started following Parch and co. as a result of a Spyro link, but I stayed with them because of them. Not because of Spyro. The way you handled the characters made them feel real. Made me want to keep "flipping the pages" as you will, and learn even more about them. I was sad when A.E. was put on haitus (though it did spur me to finally go buy Harahpin, which I've loved so far even if I'm making my progress through it very slowly due to school).

Even as A.E. had been standing, the Spyro links were minor- and the loss of elementals among the dragons could easily be attributed to something of your own creation rather than the purple dragons. But yeah, I at least would love to see you reboot A.E. as something original if that's what you want to do. =3

MaskedDragonLin [2016-03-21 23:55:31 +0000 UTC]

I think making it completely original would be amazing  There were only a few spots where it directly tied to Spyro, and the looser connections were too inspecific to be just from that franchise. Restarting would be a great chance to see how you've improved, there would be more mystery and new things to learn about the world, and slang/places/whatnot wouldn't be bound by the Spyro universe. It's definately up to you, and I'd love the story both ways, but I think making it original would have so much potential just make sure whatever you choose makes you happy!

StarfallHybrid [2016-03-21 23:46:19 +0000 UTC]

Truth be told, when I first gave Accidental Elemental a read, I didn't even realize that it was a Spyro fan-comic until later. The story and world is already set and well developed with your own works, with only some things taken from the Spyro universe (which I honestly never played sadly...). So it could definitely work as an original story.
As for the worry about starting over, I've done that plenty of times. Its never easy but its also fun comparing it to the old copy. That and you also get a chance to see improvement in both your style and yourself. As for the Spyro fans, if they only followed the comic because it was a part of the fandom as opposed to following the story for what it is, then don't worry too much about it. You win some, you lose some.
Regardless of what you decide, I'm reading that comic. I like it a lot, and it has potential
