Description
Since I’ve already drawn a harpy version of Spectra, I was in the mood to draw another bird-like ghost. This is Nightingale, a Siren from Greek mythology which were originally depicted as half-women, half-birds. She has a hauntingly beautiful voice like all of her kind but rather than singing to lure sailors to their deaths Nightingale wanted to befriend a human and sing for them to bring happiness instead of destruction.
Sadly, she gets her wish in the worst way possible when an eccentric pirate captures her and keeps her in a cage on his ship. Eventually Nightingale is rescued by a cabin boy and together they escape to a far off island where they live happily for a few years until they’re discovered again. And in order to protect her friend, she makes him cover his ears before unleashing her true power as a Siren which drives the entire pirate crew to crash their ship on the sharp rocky shore on the far side of the island...
Time passes, but since Nightingale had a longer lifespan than her human companion she remained young and beautiful while he grew older. Eventually, for his sake when Nightingale noticed he missed being around other people she insisted he leave the island behind to live the rest of his life to the fullest since he already granted her wish of being a songbird for a special someone. Reluctantly he agreed and she guided him to the nearest inhabited island before bidding him a fond farewell, returning to the island, and spending the rest of her life singing the songs he used to love before at long last the end finally came and she became a ghost with the strong desire to find someone special to sing for again.
