My take on a grown-up Ghost.

I headcannon that a vessels first clothes are designed to look like an insects wings, to show their lower status. As they reach puberty, they still retain the same clothing and nail (which is why they become faded and damaged) but they move their clothing around slightly to free their arm up more. This is because a vessel goes through intense training at this age so they need more mobility. The nail is not upgraded though, because a vessel needs to learn to fight at a disadvantage, with a shorter nail.

When a vessel reaches adulthood, they replace their clothing with a long cloak, signalling they have 'ascended' and that their status is above all other bugs and now on-par with royalty. They are given a new nail which is longer and are no longer referred to as a vessel but as a Wyrm Knight.
