Nice. I'm a few decades out from you, but I've bumped into girls I haven't seen in 20 years and they tell me about some long forgotten piece of art that I did for them -and they've still got it hanging next to their desk.

[ advise that you didn't ask for----> If I had know that people would hang on to my whimsical art when I was in art school, I would have spread the art love around to the people who were obviously going someplace, and/or to people who I might have needed in later years.]

Ah wow, that's so cool I know of friends that still have drawings I did for them years ago, of course I think they're all awful now!

I do animation, and I'm starting to understand more and more lately that the saying "It's not what you know, it's who you know" is true. In all areas of life! I think that sort of saddened me at first but I understand it's kind of important now. I can't find words to explain it without it sounding so callous.

Well, it's a lot more "What they know about you" and if they actually "know" you too, then that's a bonus.

In this online age, an unknown artist's work can be examined with a few clicks. But after that, the potential employer will ask around ["oh, he worked on _____ show, I think Katie worked on that show too, I'll ask her about this guy."]. Then if Katie give you the thumbs up- bingo!

That circuit works in reverse, too. Sometimes Katie turns out to be a royal bitch, and if she hates the guy that they want to hire, they'll hire him straightaway. ("Any enemy of Kaitie's is a friend of mine!").

Haha, I have a friend on the course called Katie, I'll keep an eye on her

Our lecturers actually have said alot that we should get into the circuit. There's a group called Pegbar that do monthly events where animators can meet up, discuss work and whatever, but really just get to know each other. In the past they've seen people come out of College and have no idea where to go because they don't know anyone in the industry.

Thanks alot for the advice I'll definitely keep it in mind.
