Hikari was so glad that she found a friend in Mi'ara, another mermaiding and breath holding enthusiast like herself. The two bonded quickly over their shared hobbies and it wasn't long before the two decided to go on a mermaiding swim together. They had been swimming for some time now, and have been holding their breaths for a little over five minutes and were almost ready to go up for a breath when out of the corner of their eyes they saw a small object approach them from below. As it got closer the two realized it was some sort of humanoid dressed in white, then they saw the seal-like half where a pair of legs would normally be. It was a pinniped mermaid! A young one too, couldn't have been much older than a human preschooler.

"Hi Ms. Arthur's friend and Ms. Arthur's other friend! Me and my moms have been waiting for you! Come on I'll take you to them!"

The little one then grabbed Hikari by the hand and started dragging her down to the seafloor below much to both girl's shock. For as small as she was a mermaid, even a child mermaid, can easily drag a small lightweight human like Hikari anywhere they want when underwater. Being human the girls couldn't talk underwater and the Odina was too focused on her own task to realize that her acquaintance was less than willing to go down further, particularly when the air in her lungs were already low. Mi'ara wouldn't just leave her friend to be taken wherever by some random mermaid child, so she swam after her as fast as she could, expending her reserve oxygen as she did.

In a minute or so Odina had returned to where her mothers had instructed her to stay put with Hikari in tow with Mi'ara following close behind. Odina now stopped and turned to the two mistaken strangers she had picked up.

"Here we are, mommy and mama will be here in just a second-"

Something was weird, the two mermaids weren't talking at all. Not only that, but their faces were becoming blue, something she's never seen before.

"-Uhhh, are you OK Ms. Arthur's friend?"

Mi'ara had finally caught up with her friend, putting a comforting hand on her shoulder, but in her haste she realized that she forgot to bring any sort of breathing device with her. Now both girls were at the seafloor with burning lungs as their bodies were desperately making the most out of their limited air supply. As both girls looked at each other wondering how they even got into this mess, they saw something no diver ever wants to see while underwater. Bubbles. Specifically, bubbles coming out of their mouths.

If you see bubbles coming out of your mouth, that's usually the last sign you'll get before the damn breaks and you run out of breath. Both girls were fighting hard not to lose their cool and keep their mouths closed.

"Ummm...are you all right Ms-"

Before Odina could even finish that sentence both girls had finally spent every bit of oxygen in their lungs and passed out in the middle of the ocean, much to Odina's absolute horror. Being a mermaid Odina was not very familiar with the concept of drowning, but now at a very young age she learned exactly what happens to humans that stay underwater too long.
