I'm rather sad that I didn't get the chance to do one of my outraged rants about the harshness of nature immediately following our trip to Utah. The wind has rather gone from my sails but suffice it to say, my first time driving in snow was A NIGHTMARE FROM HELL. Here's some things useful for complete retards born and bred in California regarding driving in the snow:

1. CHECK/REPLACE YOUR WINDSHEILD WIPERS. Twenty minutes into driving in the falling snow, I had to find a place to pull over and replace them. My old wipers may have been able to handle the light sprinkles of San Diego but after spending a summer baking in the sun, they were nowhere near able to handle the snow and sleet.

2. PLAN TO TAKE FOR FRIGGING EVER. It took us nearly ten hours to get from Ogden, UT to Las Vegas, NV because it was snowing all the way to the Arizona border. I've NEVER seen that many accidents before. I meanwhile was latched to my steering wheel, staring wildly through my mud-stained windshield, blazing along at 30 MPH.

3. IF YOU LIVE IN SAN DIEGO, THEY DON'T PUT ANTIFREEZE IN YOUR WIPER FLUID. I was certain that something was BROKEN on my car when I discovered my wiper fluid wasn't working in spite of the car just having been serviced. This meant as semis passed me on the freeway, splashing icy, muddy water across my windshield, I had nothing to combat this with. It was a good seven hours into the drive that it occurred to me OH GOD DAMMIT, IT'S FROZEN.

So yeah. That sucked and I will never do it again. MOVING ON.
