Would it be taboo to ask you how it is you manage to get it so polished? I oil mine but it never looks that smooth.

You only oil after you sand it down to 600grit.

i love abstract. it's beautiful in its own right. it's not trying to be anything else, there is nothing to compare it to, and nothing to make it "Wrong". Very nice piece.

this is amazing!!!!
this is an extreemely difficult medium (according to mois) and you have mastered it, as far as I can see...I have seen your other sculptures of this nature, and the same goes for them.

I am dumbstruck, really I don't know what to say...I would love to be able to comment and say something smart, but all I can do is let you know how much I admire your talent...

nice one yet again dude...
au revoir,
Anja.

*sighs* and this would be why I avoid the sculpture gallerys. I want to touch it! It looks so nice, and so cold and smooth.

sculptin In reply to Frost-indri [2005-03-15 16:32:54 +0000 UTC]

you make it sound liek a bad thing!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Frost-indri In reply to sculptin [2005-03-15 19:54:26 +0000 UTC]

well.. ummm... Lets just say that the last time I went into the Met. I got myself into a lot of trouble. ^_^''' (In my defense I had been out of the country, and visited an archeology site, and no museums. I forgot the "don't touch" rules. ^_^''')

And it is a bad thing. What’s the point of a sculpture if you can't touch it? If you can't feel the smooth stone (or rough) and interact with it? Yeah, I know. If EVERYONE touched it, it'd be worn smooth/down. But... *big shiny eyes* It's an object, not a drawing. You can interact with it. I'm special enough, aren't I?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

sculptin In reply to Frost-indri [2005-03-16 07:28:58 +0000 UTC]

Were you forcibly removed? Or just yelled at for days? Or did they make you pay? If so, was it worth it? It is an object, ant to truly experience a sculpture, it must be touched. Why do children touch everything?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Frost-indri In reply to sculptin [2005-03-16 13:14:26 +0000 UTC]

They yelled at me. I wasn't forcibly removed, fortunately, but that was probably because I was only lightly, to feel the surface texture. I hadn't gotten to the temple yet, and I would have been very sad to have missed that. But they watched me like a hawk...

And hell, yeah. It was worth it, even if I had gotten kicked out. Just the reality it brings to a piece to be able to touch it, and sort of link it gives you to the past. It makes those people who are so distantly removed to be almost complete fantasy much more real. I'd do it again in a heart beat. I just wish I could get permission to explore further without risk of being jumped by angry curators.

When kids did soapstone in my art class they could never put holes in it because it always ended up breaking. Its so beautiful the way you were able to do that.

Hole making takes practice and gentleness. I love holes.

good God. you are one very talented man. I'm seething with jealously. The lines in this piece are absolutely breath taking. I want to run my hands all over it

Jealosy? Thats odd. Theres no need. Youve got talent squirting out of your ears. Look at your gallery!
Take it from me, the piece feels as delicious as it looks.

I love it.. there is something about it that has me wanting to stick my hand in the bottom hole just to get stuck... I dunno.. maybe it would fit, but it sure is tempting me. Maybe there is something wrong with me..hehe.. Wonderful curves as always. I like how the bottom middle shape mimics the top left in a way.

sculptin In reply to RWeThereYet [2005-03-12 01:24:03 +0000 UTC]

It most likely would fit. I could get mine in. Made it easy to sand, if a little suggestive.

mainly because of the size and the movement of the piece, this seems like it would be a really fun one to make. small ones are fun too, but larger pieces, i just feel like all of me is going into the art, not just my hands and eyes...
