Description Exhale… the bubbles boiled around her muzzle like flies. She watched them ripple contemplatively. What did it mean…?

She had had a dream the night prior, a dream of the day when she had found her mother and father laying on the beach in the rubble from the cliff side. Their bodies had not quite cooled, even rain drenched as they were. In her dream Toril had stood horrified, widened eyes fixed on their still, sodden forms.

Something dark and motionless had caught her attention. She saw it out of the corner of her eye. When she turned to look her confused assumptions had been confirmed: the shape was the drenched corpse of another wolf, another victim of the cliffs. She had moved towards the body as if underwater: slow and numb. She couldn’t make out any distinctive features in the dream: the shape was simply a dark, vaguely wolf-shaped hole in her memory. Who was this? She reached out her muzzle to touch the corpse without thinking. Who would have been out on the stormy night when her parents had died? Her muzzle came in contact with the stranger—

—and she whipped her head back up out of the water, gasping for breath.

What the hell was that?!
