My senses tinglegiven the first scent of the spring
a puff of breeze weaving whispers across rosebud lips
Already I can feel
the periwinkle sky lifting me
in warm greetings to the strength of the sun
Somehow I can taste
cool dew off the treetops
and the essence of a thousand silky petals in the morning
My vision is filled
with countless grassy afternoons
sunflowers changing and free-flying arms and colored scarves
I start to listen
for laughter of children
the rustle of daisy chains crowning a pale bride
That first scent
builds my season
whether or not she has bloomed
