I was playing Renegade recently and I found out that was Kunio's debut (At least the Japanese port). Good times.

Damn awesome! Been playing a lot of River City, so I went and read up about the whole Kunio-kun series.

Yeah there was, and It's actually being released in the US as well.
Also, Arc System Works are doing some kinda remake/sequel to River City Ransom. Don't know what's happening with that though. XD
