I DEFINITELY like this version better than the original. It would have started the spiritual journey of the Avatar earlier, it could've even shown that there IS a current racism of (some) benders towards non-benders, without using Equalist-demagogism to start it.

This is a pretty cool origin story for Amon. The one we actually got from the season 1 finale was good too, but this one would've been a great way to bridge the gap between Books 1 and 2. Your depictions of the spirits are pretty unique as well.
I was thinking they'd go the tragic villain route and have his backstory be true, but it wasn't meant to be.

agreed re the tragic villain thing, though i thought they were overusing the 'life ruined by a firebender' trope - i was pretty upset when he turned out to be a big faking faker. Β not so much bc i liked his character particularly and more because the equalists' complaint about the mistreatment of nonbenders is in my mind totally valid, and amon being kind of a con artist i thought dealt a nasty blow to the movement. -_-Β
