i like, another thought, for the title up top since its supposed to be on a spherical surface, perhaps make the text look like its on the ring instead of just sitting on top.

That's not bad actually If I may give you some suggestions:
- the curves of the 3d are kinda square-ish. It would be great to see some smooth, solid curves in your next wp.
- perhaps it's just me, but the solid black on the right looks slightly inappropriate to me. It makes the surrounding blue parts rather 'fake'.
- the lower left corner looks simple, yet 'calm'. I like it, more than the upper left corner actually, where everything could be a bit smoother.
- the title at the upper right corner doesn't really come out; try some 1337 2d white fx for that
- last but not least: make 'em in 1280x1024 so they fit on my desktop
