Description Would you rise to those greater heights, knowing that you must then fall longer?

*** *** ***

That sounds like it would be fun. ^^

Doodle dragon, and I felt like colouring something a bit less vibrant. Actually the colours were meant to be pastel like tones, but that didn't happen, oh well. :3

Size- A4, Media - Colouring pencils

How does the photograph look?

great drawing, as allways.
Somehow, eventhough you used lighter colours it still reminds me of a church window. I guess that eventhough the colours are light, they are still very intense. In combination withthe blue "frame" and the black contour lines have an ornamental effect.

Thank you kindly for taking the time to criticise this dragon, I really appreciate it!
I haven't done a church window dragon before but I imagine in marker pens it might look nice, I might have to give the idea some thought.

I really like the border on this one. I think it fits right in with the dragon giving it great balance color and composition wise.

I especially like the curl pattern on the right that leads the viewer right to the dragon  then  the curl to the left takes  right back to the dragon. Very good circular composition. It gives it a really nice flow and motion  to the drawing.

I think it does have a lighter color theme which is more pastel looking than most of your dragon art. but I like that very much also.

The light blue in the dragon's body also connects the border to the dragon and gives it great unity also.
The  angle of the wings running from the right to left also adds to the  unity of the drawing.

(Just personal preference )I would have left out the colored dots on the background as it slightly detracts from the central focus of the dragon and makes the background a bit busy looking.

Out side of that one minor (very minor detail) I think this is a great example of excellent composition and color balance.( I love the title and concept which matches the drawing beautifully.

Once again, thank you very much for taking the time to criticise this piece. To be honest I didn't think about the composition much, I just wanted clouds and a dragon, but I'm glad that you like how composition looks. I used to draw. clouds a lot but it's been a while now.

I know what you mean about the coloured orbs, I quite regretted putting them almost straight away. They were a last minute idea. Dx

I'm also glad that you think this still looks pale, that's what I was aiming for, thanks again!

Your very welcome my winged friend. Did you have a nice holiday?

The orbs didn't look wrong or anything like that and they did help unify the color scheme. I just felt they took a bit of focus from the dragon.

I've noticed you are very good at pulling the color schemes throughout your drawings in the backgrounds

I think you have an eye or innate feeling about composition, because all your work always have great leading lines that pull the viewer threw the picture and back to the central subject . You do that in almost all your drawings.

It was lovely thank you for asking.
I've got lots of room for improvement when it comes to backgrounds...especially when I get lazy and just can't be bothered with a detailed background, aha. x3

Thank you kindly, leading lines? Do you mean lines of movement, are they the same thing? I don't really think about it, I just think 'Yep, I want this dragon to be swirly or curvy, and at least a bit anatomically believable'. xD

I'm sorry.  Im afraid I didn't explain that very well. I think the term leading lines is a bit of a misnomer as it  isn't always lines.  It could be paint strokes or the placement of objects, the placement of certain colors or even perspective or movement.

It's what ever element the artist uses to draw the viewer's eye into the artwork and to the main focal point or points in the drawing.    There's so many terms in art that seem  to overlap each other and are a bit confusing I think.

In your drawing here I did feel it was the movement of your line work.

I think you intuitively  almost always use compositional lines of movement with repeating  curves and swirls to give your work unity and to draw the viewers eye into your drawings. I think this has become a form for you that distinguishes your work with a style that is unique and your own .

So it can include a few different factors, that's quite interesting.
Thank you again, I think my style has a changed a fair bit in the last few months since I've been drawing more feathers so my dragons have become a bit more birdlike, so I'm working on a more draconic dragon without the feathers. It's weird how you can go months without noticing any changes to your style, although when I compare recent works to last years works I can notice some differences. I'm also thinking of doing some redraws from old pieces that I never uploaded.

Maybe style was not quite the word I should have used.  but there is something about your work that make it very uniquely yours. Maybe I should have used the word trait instead of style. I can tell now your work right off even if I don't see your name

Maybe, but I still get what you mean.
Really? Well it's nice that you can recognise my dragons, that should help prevent territorial disputes if any of mine decide to fly near your dragon's lair. ^-^

Thank you, I'm glad that you like the detail, the quality of the photograph wasn't very good so I wasn't sure if you could still see it well. ^-^"
