Kukuri don’t always know when rough housing with their kin - parents, mates or siblings - goes too far and sometimes it’s a learning process for both.

Mahuika is showing the children how to treat fireflies on a peripheral area of her volcano. Villagers are scared by them because this kind of big fireflies only lives around the volcano, and tales say that they are actually little fire spirits wandering. Everything that comes from the volcano is frowned upon, in the belief that volcano god or something is holy and whatever and you should not bother it or take it away.
But Mahuika is a fire trickster and knows that there is nothing supernatural behind that.
