Description Details like eyes - horns - ears - tongues

I'll probably make another dragon details tutorial, does anyone have a suggestion to put in it?

As you might have noticed I used a lot of images that I could find on Google. I do NOT own any of these images and I'm sorry that I can't credit them.

Anyway, this took some time since I got all emerged in my research especially the teeth part n__n fascinating stuff....

If there's anything I didn't bring up or if anything was incorrect or confusing, misunderstood etc please write it in the comments or send me a private note!

Also, remember to go to my group: dcp-dragoncyclopedia.deviantar…  and become a watcher so you won't miss out the upcoming advanced dragon artwork, hand-picked to help you with drawing dragons and dragon accessories stuff :3 I will be posting my dragon tutorials there as well!

Thank you all! Love you guys!!! <3 <3

really thought as tutorial!
I just react to the teeth: what about shark-ish!! XD teeth are quite triangular and close to each other, overlaping with many new teeth rows. and teeth have great notches to shred some meat, this is really interesting and a nice option! ^^

great job, anyhow!

Hello lovely,
I've been a fine embroiderer for a number of years. Think 17th century, royalty....if you really want to see, google/image "17thC stumpwork" - that's my specialty. I am moving into more 'textile art' - wanting to create 3 dimensional 'creatures' - based on grotesques in illuminated manuscripts. I'm finding these tutorials absolutely wonderful for guidance for the creature details. Thankyou so much. I really love your sense of humour and lightness as well.

These are wonderful tutorials! I don't know if I ever seen one that explored tongues before.

What are some of the ways someone could do a dragon based off a hummingbird or butterfly?

SammyTorres In reply to evil0verlady [2016-05-06 05:08:04 +0000 UTC]

Just very long a thin tongue?
Have you seen how a wood peckers tongue is set up anatomically? Try google it.
It's tongue goes back in the skull, over the eyes and into the left nose socket (as far as I remember) quite crazy cx

off course you don't have to apply this to a dragon, hehe.
Just a long, thin tongue would do the trick. Perhaps a double tongue?

any advice on a dragon with bull-like horns? i was able to come up with this gyazo.com/7adbb73943eb83ad6390… but any advice is apreciated

SammyTorres In reply to hammertheshark [2016-03-12 14:47:00 +0000 UTC]

I'd place the horns further up on the head and perhaps closer to the eyes. you can look at this 3D view of this wildebeest (couldn't find any bulls, this was the closest thing)
www.google.com/culturalinstitu…

this site has many 3D views of animal skulls. I use it for reference when drawing horns

this is an awesome tutorial, thanks for doing it!

One thing: you say that teeth aren't "evenly placed next to each other or have even shapes"-- you should look at dolphin teeth.

Anyway, that was more to spread info than a criticism, I love your tutorials

can you do something for, scales feathers and fur or the appropriate colors for the living conditions of the dragon???? just like the extra details or something like that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SammyTorres In reply to Flareonandumbreon [2014-11-27 12:57:04 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, I won't be making more tutorials right now as I'm currently working on my comic and other personal stuff :/

I'm also not sure what exactly you're asking me of but... I do have 3 seperate tutorials about scales, fur and feathers but something like colors is entirely up to yourself

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Flareonandumbreon In reply to SammyTorres [2014-11-27 20:30:08 +0000 UTC]

oh thanks i saw the fur one after i posted the comment. i will have to look for the other two.
what i meant about the colors is that i know some animals have certian colors/paterns to keep predators away, blend in to their surrondings, to attract mates, and stuff like that so i was kindove just wondering what certian paterns and colors i should use-if it matters

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SammyTorres In reply to Flareonandumbreon [2014-11-27 23:33:55 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I see ^w^
I guess, for the colors it depends on the animal/dragon you're designing and what it's surroundings and diet should be.
say if you're designing a predator it'll make sense that it has a camoflage like a tiger or leopard to be able to sneak up on the pray.

The best thing you can do is to study real animals and look at how their coats benefits their survival in the wild.
