i really wanted to make some alternate rainbow power designs!!!
i guess something that really bothers me about the canon designs (among other things) is that they dont really seem to cohesively represent friendship, or teamwork, or rainbows even? it's like they just slapped random coloured stripes on each one and overloaded them with hair their cutie marks/symbols. i don't really understand what happened there. why did they make the design choices that they did?
i wanted to make designs that would bind them together more? SO, they all have a shiny magical rainbow stripe in their hair, and each pony's cutie mark gains five sparkles around it (echoing twilight's cutie mark in representing the five other friends/elements). their manes and tails would still do the whole magical flowing spiel and get a little larger, but they wouldn't be…completely out of control…glances back at the season finale… that extra hair magic results in fetlocks instead.
everypony is accented with the colour of the element of harmony she represents! and their fetlocks are individualized to match their personal style. but i wanted them to gain more similarities than individualities, since they are joining forces to use the super powerful magic of friendship.

Really love all of this, the rainbow streak, the white outlines on it and the cutie marks, the sparkles on the hooves, the fact you actually incorporated their elements into it, really great job
I was working on my own rainbow power ponysona using the show's original design, but then I came across this and I definitely like it better. Would it be alright if I implement your version to my pony? Naturally I will give credit to you of course if you allow me

I love the simple design but I wish they had something more individual on their hooves. The diamond shapes look like Rarity's cutie mark. Rarity is my favorite design btw. The rainbow swirl through the curled mane is just great.

that's fair! i meant for them to be more sparkles than diamonds, but the larger ones do look that way. and thank you! rarity is my personal favourite out of these designs too, tbh, haha!

I think that I agree with you in most cases. Your designs definitely give them more unity & the rainbow streak looks good, too.
The only things that I'd, personally, keep from the original designs would the 2 features. The 1st being Applejack, I liked the contrast that the green ribbons gave to her overall look. The 2nd is really within the same ballpark. I really thought that the blue bow that they gave Pinkie looked very cute & I thought that it suited her, in a way.
I actually wouldn't mind it if the 2 of them started wearing those accessories on a regular basis in the show. Of course, that's just my opinion. Other than that, I love your design.

I happen to like the canon forms...Fluttershy is so pretty that way...but this is pretty too. And it does make sense in the cohesive friendship theme too...

So much cleaner than what Hasbro gave us! I love your style, and I love how clean and simple your color schemes are, and how you truly incorporated the "rainbow power" into each of the Mane Six's hairstyles. All in all, a great improvement. Rarity is my favorite here, even though she one of my least favorites in the show. But what can I say? Her hair here is just so aesthetically pleasing that I have to give her a double thumbs up. ^_^

Wow, I like these designs so much better! The color schemes seem much more under control, yet all the colors are still there. And I really love your "each pony's cutie marks gain 5 sparkles to represent her friends" idea.
Also, how have I never noticed the symbolism in Twilight's normal cutie mark = the central sparkle with *five* others around it?? I always wondered why there were only 5 mini-sparkles, since 6 would be more symmetrical. Gah, it's so obvious! I feel like a terrible brony, haha

Really? How did you know it was DHX & not Hasbro that came up with those horrendous designs? And Alicorn Princess Twilight Sparkle? This really makes blaming everything bad that happened about the show on HASBRO's BUY OUR TOYS difficult.
That said, this is definitely a more pleasing look, wished whoever designed Rainbow Power got greater insight while making them.

I guess I echo a majority of what everybody else is saying, these are much more pleasing to look at then the show's final product. The rainbow highlights through their manes just makes more sense in terms of the whole theme. I also like the added touch of their elements of harmony necklaces/tiara colors dabbed through out.

These are far more restrained and effective. It feels like my eye is still be drawing to the character's face and expanding outwards from there. Excellent job!

thank you! if you're interested in using something more robust than mspaint, i would definitely recommend paint tool sai! even after the free trial is up, you can continue to use it (though you won't be able to save your work directly and will have to screenshot it). i think its easy enough to figure out how to work the basics of it, but its got tons of useful features you can discover too! and there are plenty of tutorials for it out there!
