Description My bf, Steve, made the Lotus for me. I made the lily pad. This is what happens when you add water beneath it. And yes, that really is water. But you'll have to guess at how I got it on top of it!

I dyed the water blue with frosting colouring that I found at ACMoore. That is also where we got the origami paper for this. Mom was kind enough to lend me a white baking dish to put the water in as well. To get the light that I did, I used a softbox as my key light, and then my fill/background light had a blue gel on it. I put my white reflector behind this to bounce the blue light back a bit, and used a black piece of construction paper as a gobo to avoid too much spill.

Did some minor tweaking in Photoshop to get rid of the clumps of dye that wouldn't break up to mix in, and to add the vignette.

Overall I'd say it took me about two hours from start to finish. Now I just have to clean up... >_>;

Thank you. I learned the perfectionism through some very hard lessons at college, so it's good to know it was worth it.

Very cool shot. You can tell it is water because of the reflection. I love the simplicity of the composition. The framing is perfect, and it is a great use of negative space.
