I'm a comic book lover, specifically anime and manga. Initially I thought of a comic book course but I wondered if it was as complete as one of illustration or animation.
Is the figure of the cartoonist equivalent or different in abilities compared to an illustrator (perhaps in coloring, in drawing and digital painting, in perspectives, in poses ...)?
Can a cartoonist use colors, paintings, illustrate, animate or make concept art / character design for video games? Or is it easier to vice versa, ie for the illustrator to try their hand at making a comic?
The courses are varied and interesting, such as: concept art and character design for video games, animation, comics, illustration.
But which one to choose? Which course gives the most solid base so that you can then range in other fields with practice? Is it better to start with a traditional or digital course?

You should totally be able to go from a field to another, but that always take time.. there is no "secret ultimate course" which will give you the power to draw everything, but the efficiency of the course will depend on your motivation, your currents skills and what you're already good to do. Maybe you love anime and manga but you're terrible at inking and drawing lines while you're really good at painting and blending ? If it's your case then do not give up on anime tho, because (in that exemple) training your lineart is useful for a lot of fields, and you will always learn more from drawing something you really like. Although training on a style/field you would not enjoy at first can give you a lot of experience, and remember than everything you learn in drawing can help you with differents styles : by learning anatomy from anime or comics you prepare yourself with simplified shapes before learning realistic anatomy for exemple..
What everyone (I guess?) would tell you is to start with the basics, like drawing on paper, learning first to have your pen down and drawing in volume... then grayscales, colours, lineart and else depends on what you wanna do. You wanna draw backgrounds ? Then study backgrounds. You wanna draw like your favorite artist ? Then study him/her artworks and work on what kind of skills he/she has.
Buuuut every field has huge differences, and that's why it's hard to go from one field to another for a lot of people, when you're in your confort zone after years and years it's a tough job to do..
Some people work on differents styles at once so it's easier for them to become versatiles, but it's really not advised to do that when begining !
I am a student in video games art (2d paint and 3d), and what is really cool with video games is that a lot of skills are needed, if you worked on comics, illustrations or animations then you have a lot of experience that will help you in the process, and that's a bit mutual ! So don't fear to lose time on something you will regret because you are always rewarded by working on a skill you would not find useful by now, just study the basics, and on what will be useful depending on what you want, then after practicing a lot you will find what you really wanna do if you still didn't !
So that was just my opinion, hope it helps a little bit... and sorry for my english i'm baguette

I also thought about studying videogame art(3d modelling and animation or 2d concept art and character design) but here in Italy there's no such type of study in any University, I should go private way for a private academy that will cost me a lot.
Without a Bachelor it would be risky... so next I opted for a Bachelor in CS starting probably in september.
I really like storytelling and art, would really like to publishy a game or a comic/anime designed and written by me... but dreams are only dreams.

Well with amount of work your dreams can be reality but you should know that already lol ! 3d modeling and 2d art are far differents, even 3d doesn't necessarily need great drawing skills even if it's recommended... uh.. i mean... depending on the job you should still know the basics but as a 3d modeler the minimum skill in 2d to have is texturing (painting skills)... but there is a lot of differents qualifications here and the work is always divided to multiple people who have their own skills when working on a big game, sometimes when 3d people made their work in time they can even do concepts arts for the project, so yeah, it all depends on you, from being a simple 3D modeler to someone who can both do 3D and 2D at the same time !
Tbh, about concept art and character design, I think you have to be really good to think about getting a decent job out there because there are dozens and dozens of people here who want to draw characters... (like you... and me )
I don't know how it works in Italy but in France there is also not that much schools who teach videogame's art, and the only ones minimum decents are also privates... be careful about your choice if you think to go in one of these, because there are a lot of scams out there, don't only base your judgment on their site and Open House, but on the previous students and the artworks/works they show, if they are a lot or always the same guys...
And about a license, I may have misunderstood but if you have at least your bachelor's degree, then you're good to go.. even with an academy with non official degree. If you have the skills for the job, no one will not hire you because you haven't this or that, this degree thing works for other fields but here in art their judgment will be based on your portfolio.

The third one isn't realistic at all, it isn't even semi-realism, all 3 are just anime.
Dont get me wrong, I like the drawings, but lets just be honest lol

I made this comment a while ago but it just bothers me that any art style that isn't hyper realistic is considered "anime" that's not even an art style, it's japanese animatoon tf

Your realism is what I call realistic anime and I love it. There is nothing really realistic or semirealistic about the second one to be totally honest.

It wasn't even harsh. Stop being a snowflake. Before you judge me actually know me, k? I just had someone tell me my art was too terrible to appeal to a mass audience. That's what's harsh. Telling people the truth or your opinion politely is not wrong. No one can grow without constructive criticism. Unless Sakimi is your literal goddess and you can't figure out why we don't all worship her.

aye man in the same way you're allowed to say your opinion i should be allowed to say "lol harsh". I am also simply stating my opinion. And if people are saying your art is ass you shouldn't just sit back and moan. That fucking horrible. Tell them to go fuck themselves because your art is beautiful, dude. And also snowflake? I thought that meant someone whos like an sjw and thinks their unique and special lol. but i guess in this context you mean easily offended and or triggered.
I wouldn't really call myself a huge sakimichan fan. I check in here and there but i do think she gets a lot of unnecessary criticism like "OMG SAKI ALL U DRAW IS PORN". I also feel bad referring to her in the 3rd person as if shes not going to read these comments. I think her art is stunning and she should be allowed to draw as much ass and titty as she wants.

Thank you for saying that about my art. And no ofc you're allowed to say you thought it was harsh. And ofc she can draw anything she wants! c: I was only trying to give her a critique, you can have your opinion on if you thought it was fair or not. I'm only trying to state why I thought it was fair to say what I did, and I'm sorry if I got too upset with you. I don't think a person can grow if all they hear is compliments, though at the same time, "OMG SAKI ALL U DRAW IS PORN" is terrible. That's not even a critique, it's just an insult. If they actually wanted to help her they'd have said more and not have been so rude smh.

Don't get inspired from the same face and body designs. Its less realism and more just anime with rendering. If youre inspiring to be a realism artist check out *real* realism art. They are much better at proportion and lighting

Indeed because you can't call that realism when you still lack functionality radial shading and proper lighting understanding. I personally find that insanely small mouth and nose creepy as F.

To be fair, Semi-Realism is not even an official term for an art style. It's just made up to separate simple manga art away from realistic manga art. There is also realism and hype realism. It really depends on how people see it since this is based on subjective opinion when it comes to digital art. Personally I would call her current art style semi-realism because it's still manga art with realistic shade. But that's just my opinion. It still would be correct if someone would label it as realism.
Anyways much love to her, at the end it doesn't matter what style her art is,what matters is how beautiful and inspirational her art is for so many people.

I was about to comment on the "realism" as well! I understand what she means by it though, it does look very realistic shading-wise and especially compared to the anime character on the left. Still though, her style is more like stylized/realistic anime in terms of characters, colors, lights, etc, in my opinion. Nevertheless it's a great style and she's indeed a very skillful artist!
