I have this tendency to get peculiar ideas for artwork, so let me try to explain. When Korra was announced along with some descriptions of that world, some were describing it as “Avatar meets steampunk.” Since then, I’ve had this urge to dress my favorite AtLA couple in steampunk clothing. Now, I’m not all that familiar with the subculture in general; I just have some vague ideas from what I’ve seen and some conversations with some friends who like to cosplay, so forgive any complete misrepresentations. I really just wanted to try my hand at designing some cool-looking outfits for Zuko and Katara. I imagined these as being royal portraits, if you will, dress clothes that aren’t necessarily functional for bending. And a more modern time call for a more mod-ish background. Anyway, I had a lot of fun designing these, including all the little details. For example, I felt Zuko needed a compass instead of the traditional pocket watch, as he has a tendency to lose his way.

(Edit: I keep trying to futz with the picture quality, but it keeps coming up really pixel-y. This is disappointing, but right now I don't know how to fix it. )
